1993 Dodge Ramcharger LE 318/5.2 from North America

Faults:

Nothing that I didn't know when I bought it.

General Comments:

I just bought my Ramcharger from a guy who found it rusting in a barn in Ohio. The power steering pump squeals, but after adding two pints of antileak, although it didn't stop the leak (which came from the rusted out metal end of the pressure hose), it did stop squealing until the fluid leaked out. I think with new hoses, she might be back in business.

The shocks are also shot, and because it was covered with wet leaves for many years in the barn, there is a LOT of surface rust, but nothing cancerous.

Despite having 170,000+ miles, the vehicle runs and shifts VERY nicely. The shocks are shot, so it floats on the interstate and handles bumps horribly, but that'll be one of the next things I replace.

The power windows and locks still work, the air blows cold, and the cruise control STILL works perfectly.

I was hesitant because this vehicle was made in Mexico, but I know many happy RC owners, have ALWAYS wanted one, and got mine for $1100. I will update this review as I replace the needed parts/systems.

If you didn't want one built in Mexico, then you should have gotten one made before 1988.

Better budget for a new PAS pump as well, if you really are flogging it on after losing all the power steering fluid.

Turned out to be a leaky pressure-side power steering hose... the metal on the steering box end had completely rusted through! Added some Lucas stop leak/conditioner and a bit of Sea Foam hydraulic fluid treatment, and it has worked since.

Keep on taking care of that Ramcharger and it will have a lot of miles left in it. Mine has 245,000, so your's may be good for another 100,000!
