The AC compressor has been the only major repair. This was replaced at 40000 miles at a non dealer mechanic. $300, including parts and labor.
With the manual transaxle, the "roll pin" that connects the shift linkage to the transaxle broke around 135000 miles. $2 parts, my labor to insert, 5 minutes.
Effected recalls: PCM and lower steering arms.
I do treat the car well. Oil, Mobil 1 only. Air filter, K&N. Plugs, Bosch platinum 4+ (100000 miles per set). Full detailing twice per year, my labor, Maguires for supplies. We've spent some time on improvements in stereo, base was good (65W X 4 + 200W sub RMS is better) and wheels (16X6.5 Konig Monsoons vs 14X6 steel stock). On cross country highway trips (the car was manufactured Aug 1995, 96 model) it averages 40 mgp. Around town, upper 20's, depending on how heavy the foot.
I have a 95 Stratus 2.4 lt. Out of the blue this car won't start. We've checked a few things including the alternator. We were told that the alternator is definately good by a place that specializes in alts and starters. When I bypass the alt the car tries to start, but then a fuse in the starting system blows. If the alternator is connected nothing happens at all.
I've been told that it could be the voltage regulator: which is a part of the PCM. Is there a way for me to diagnose this before I take it to the dealer? They quoted $347.00 for the part and 125.00 labor for them to install and fix all the setting and test. How hard is this to do? I don't think that installing is is hard, but I don't know about getting all the setting and adjustments right. I also know that the module is shock sensitive so you could ruin it if you're not grounded when touching it. Please help if you know anything about this problem or how to fix it.
My 95 stratus ES also just up and wouldn't start for me. Lately the engine also just turns off when I am driving and doesn't want to restart. I have had the cam and crank shaft sensors replaced, PCM reprogrammed and no one knows exactly what is wrong. Any ideas?
Anyone checked the electronic relays? It's a cheap fix that's easy to overlook.
I have a 95 stratus and the only problem I have is the thing burns more oil than gas. I have no idea where the leak is coming from. any one that knows about this please help.
