1996 Fiat Punto GT 1.4 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Everything - in 1st year of ownership, the engine, turbo & gearbox replaced. Loads of ECU problems causing the car to stall all the time!

General Comments:

Was a nightmare! - sold it as soon as I could possibly afford to! Dealers terrible: was in the garage more than out of it.

Having said that awesome performance in the dry (as long as you don't try to idle!)

Idling problems can be easily solved by ensuring that the electrical connection block to the airflow meter is securely clipped in. Also ensure that the electrical contacts are cleam by scraping the 'crap' away from them.

1996 Fiat Punto S 1.1 petrol from Slovenia

Faults:

What can I say?

Many, many electrical problems, problems with gearbox and clutch.

Problem with cold engine.

General Comments:

In my country, we have a lot of FIAT cars and spare parts are not very expensive, but I will never buy FIAT again.

My next car will be a German car.

Hello, I am also writing from Slovenia.

Do NOT make a mistake, with buying a German car, if you want reliability the only car which can give it to you is a JAPANESE car.

Read what experiences I had with a VW Polo 1.4 and with a Toyota Previa after 340.000 km!!

I own a FIAT 96 and I don't have any problems, I think you must bought a used car, that's the problem with used cars, I bought my FIAT with a dealers company, the clutch and the engine are very suitable, besides, the electrical devices work just fine. Nevertheless, if you want to buy a cheapest car, you can always buy a Japanese car, you can find lots and lots of spare parts in almost every place, but you won't have the stability of an European car.

1996 Fiat Punto GT 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Electric window replaced; lamda sensor replaced; handbrake handle broke; glovebox lid broke; electric cooling fan replaced; rear wash wipe jet broke; overheating - possible cylinder head gasket blown; lights sometimes play up; what more can I say.

General Comments:

Dealer found to be unhelpful, don't seem to have much of a clue about overheating problem.

Suggest replacing head gasket approx £300; Fiat customer service can never get thru.
