1987 Fiat Ritmo Abarth 130 TC 2.0 twin cam from Norway

Summary:

The pure, classic and original hot hatchback

Faults:

Lots of things due to spirited driving...

Some of it:

The gearbox had to be replaced at 165000 km.

Callipers and discs front.

Handbrake cable.

Dampers front & rear.

Front tires changed twice, rear tires once...

Engine mount bushes changed.

Electrical failure due to improper grounding.

Rubber bushes in the suspension changed.

The engine still has its full power, no oil consumption.

General Comments:

An extremely stiff and sporty car. A go-kart to drive when the suspension, tires and steering are in good condition. Very, very direct and physical in all matters, and excellent Recaro seats.

Razor-sharp steering, excellent pedal feel, great brakes, a bit harsh gearshift and clutch for the close-ratio gearbox.

The engine is the cars strongest part, a very sturdy and reliable 2 litre twin cam coupled with two double barrel Weber 40 DCOE, and a 2" exhaust gives 130 Italian hp at 5900 rpm, and lots of torque from down low. No chips here!!! Only regular oil/plugs/filter changes so far!!

Weighs 980 kg, top speed at 170,000 km 203 km/h!! 0-100 7.8 sec. 10-12 litre/100km.

Excellent handling and driving on small curvy back roads, and very well balanced if pushed to the limit.

Only one remark regarding handling: Quite bad throttle-lift-off oversteer at high speeds.

This is a true performance car that needs a caring owner to stay fit. The best driving experience in its class!

I am also from Norway, and I own a similar car to the one described here. Unfortunately, mine is not in a good condition, due to bad maintenance from the owner before me. The engine is good, but the transmission and body need a lot of work.

Another thing about my Abarth is the interior. Mine was not delivered with Recaro seats, but I am trying to get my hands on some soon. The Ritmo (in Britain called Strada) 130TC Abarth is a magnificent peace of machinery, and I hope more people than me will work to maintain these cars for the future!

Summary:

Forza Italia!

Faults:

Nothing major, exhaust replaced because of rust, generator brushes wearing out etc. Just regular wear stuff. Some rusting.

General Comments:

A VW Golf, only better handling, roadholding and generally more fun.
