Faults:

Far too much to list, but most was just maintenance, the van never gave any major serious or expensive problems. Inside and outside the van looks as rough as you would expect at nearly 200K and 18 years old.

General Comments:

Dull, noisy, slow... but if you want a solid reliable old van, it is hard to pass up on the Scudo.

Last of the first generation on an 04 reg, the Scudo from this time was very reliable and a popular works van. I have had mine 10 years and it has been economical and great to own.

It takes the 1.9 diesel engine 20 seconds to get to 60 mph. Shocking by today's standards, and was only just about acceptable back in the late 1990's and early 2000's. The van will however see 45 mpg + even when heavy loaded, and the engine (as long as you change the oil) will never complain.

Interior is comfortable enough but it gets noisy on motorways. I like the dash layout and storage areas. Rear space is as good as it gets for a van in this class. There are others (Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert I believe), but the Scudo from Fiat is the best van in my opinion.

Not many of this generation around anymore, but if you find a well looked after one and need a reliable van to get about in for a good price, go for it.

Faults:

I have recently purchase a 1.9 diesel Fiat Scudo, and was told it would do about 45 - 50 MPG, however I am only getting 28-30 MPG.

Have used diagnostic computer on it, but came up with no faults.

Took it to garage to check all the belt timings, but they were fine.

Have tried a service. The van runs OK, but when accelerating from tick over, it seems to run on 3 and a half cylinders, and then reverts to 4 cylinders.

This does not happen when the engine is cold.

Can anyone help, or have any idea what I could try next?

General Comments:

Other than the above, I find it very comfortable to drive.

And it has a brilliant turning circle.

All round nice, quiet van.

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this van.

General Comments:

Excellent work horse with superb performance. I use it for my plastering business, and the back of it is always fully loaded, and the van will pull like it has nothing in it at all; it has a very strong engine.

It's a medium size van with lots of space. You get the 3 seats in the front with lots of room, and you will be surprised on how much stuff you can fit in the back.

The ride comfort is very good. The chassis is the same one that is on the Peugeot 806, so it has car like handling even when it's full. I actually prefer to drive my van than my car, cause it's so nice to drive and so smooth.

It isn't too bad on fuel either; my van is always full, so I always have a lot of weight onboard. And around town I average around 35mpg.

The reason I got a Scudo is because the bloke I use to work for had a Citroen Dispatch, which is exactly the same van but different badges. He had is for over 3 years, it had 259,000 miles on the clock when he got rid of it, and all he ever had to do was put 1 set of tyres on it. It was ultra reliable, and so far mine has as well.
