1999 Ford Cougar 24v 2.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Brings a smile to my face every time

Faults:

Stuck switch on the dash computer.

Rear wash wipe switch is broken.

Exhaust catalyst replaced due to excess noise.

General Comments:

Deciding to purchase this car was a big decision for someone who previously owned a turbo diesel for the previous four years. But buy it I did, and love it I do.

Had a few niggles, but most covered by the dealer's warranty. Ride is smooth and very grippy, acceleration fantastic and although I have the cloth seat version I personally find it very comfortable. The dash and instruments are very cleverly designed, but I have had problem's with the view of the speedometer in respect to the height adjustment of the steering wheel, this could be down to stumpy legs of course.

A big surprise to me was the fuel consumption, I expected it to be poor, but seems with careful driving to be moderate to good.

Overall I would definitely recommend this car, but new, at full retail price?

1999 Ford Cougar 24v X 2.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A high performance bargain

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is without doubt the best car I have ever owned. Previous cars include a Mondeo, 2 Sierras, an Escort, a Cortina (all Fords), a VW Passat and a Mazda.

The Cougar is comfortable (I am only 5ft 8") and I can drive for hours without needing a break.

It is very quick about town (no-one beats me off the lights) and on the motorway it is majestic. Overtaking is a breeze.

Its road holding abilities make it a joy to drive around winding country lanes.

It is truly an all-round performer. It feels and behaves like a sports car, and when you need the practicality of a hatch-back, it is able to oblige.

It is one of the most distinctive looking cars on the road.

Fantastic.

1999 Ford Cougar 2.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A high performance car at a very good price, beats a BMW anyday, I know from experience!!!

Faults:

Nothing to date.

General Comments:

The Cougar is a lovely all around car. Great drive, very comfortable and great top speed. It's a pity about the seats in the back, but ones in the front are very nice.

Your view of the Cougar is spot on mate. A little room in the back is fine, as I sit in the front most of the time!

As for people who think the cougar is sloppy on twisty roads; well they might just not be drivers in the true sense, and should remember the car is big and heavy as far as sports cars go.

I have owned my Cougar for 6 months now, and I'm over the moon with how it drives and looks; it always makes me smile.

Beats a BMW! Haha good jokeā€¦

1999 Ford Cougar 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Clutch problem in first days, ie wouldn't go into gear, had to stop/start engine, but it righted itself!!

General Comments:

I think the car is great, despite the other two reviews, I think the seats are very comfortable, and provide excellent support in the lower back, something I have found lacking in other makes. It's not "hot hatch" performance, but is very smooth, and 4k revs up, "goes" quite well. All the women in my village.... love it!!!!!!!!
