1998 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4 from North America

Summary:

I refuse to drive anything else!!

Faults:

Ball joints were bad when I picked up the car (56000 miles), but since I didn't allow my husband to drive it, he didn't know. Only when we took a trip, did he say there is something wrong. It was still under warranty, so I got them replaced free.

Also, it needed a front end alignment. Which was done at the same time as the ball joints.

The seats look like the leather is wearing away in some spots.

I do not like that the rear windshield wiper is on the paint... very bad design, and the scratches prove that! Also, it doesn't work.

When CD player is in use for awhile, it stops working (getting hot??).

General Comments:

I really like my E.B. Expedition. I would buy a second/another one in a heartbeat, although I wish that I hadn't gotten mine in black, because it is very tough to maintain.

Wood grain (interior) in the Eddie Bauer Edition would have been a plus.

I feel very safe in my Expedition, especially driving my children around. I get stared at whenever I go anywhere... it is a riot!

I make sure that I put $10 in the tank whenever it goes down a notch. I enjoy the onboard computer, that let's you know how many miles you have left before you run out of gas/average mpg/compass. Very helpful for me... just in case!!

I can't wait until spring when we have a His & Her's. Of course, I will get the newer Expy, and it won't be black. I won't drive anything else.

The basic car is a death machine compared to my Expedition. As a matter of fact, I'm selling my Mercury Sable LS wagon, because I don't feel safe in it anymore, and it has a 4 star crash test rating!

1998 Ford Expedition XLT 4.6L V8 from North America

Summary:

Awesome truck

Faults:

Nothing, has been great.

General Comments:

I live in a small township on the Northern Outer Banks of North Carolina and must drive on the beach 9 miles to get to my home in sometimes very soft sand. The Expedition has good power and high ground clearance which is exceptional for the deep tracks. It is so good on the beach that I very rarely have to take much air out of the tires. Best beach vehicle I have ever driven.

1998 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4 5.4 Triton V8 16V from North America

Faults:

Check engine light would come on and the engine would skip and miss, needed new spark plugs. This was free.

General Comments:

We live in central New York and we like 4wd a lot. We have a red Expedition and plates on it that say LASERMAN.

1998 Ford Expedition XLT 4.8 V8 from North America

Faults:

There have been two recalls, relatively minor. One was to replace a cable in the transmission, and the other to tighten and replace the lugnuts, both done in less than 15 minutes.

General Comments:

This SUV is reliable, pretty and is fun to drive. You recieve a lot of enviable stares, constant comments and everyone on the road excluding Semi's moves out of your way. With the Trailer tow package you get huge tires that look like they could drive right over other other cars. Although super expensive to buy, if you lease for a term of 2 years, payments are low due to the high residule on the car. My lease payments are lower than a previous $21,000 Windstar that I had even though the Expedition's price was nearer to $40,000.

Had several problems with the expedition I purchased. Replaced electronic coils for a cost of approximately $375.00 each. I spoke with the service manager and he stated they had problems with them and would have to eventually replace all of them. Front sway bars needed to be reattached. Rear pinion seal had to be replaced twice. Vacuum pumps to allow vehicle to stay in 4 wheel drive needed replacement. Stuck in snow when this happened. Window noise at high speeds, Ford says this is normal. Plenty of room and tows exceptionally well.
