I had a 1985 xr2 and it had twin 40's KN sports exhaust the lot and yeah it was quick, but 125mph your having a laugh. your speedo must be wrong.

How strange! A car that, when it was new, Ford only claimed a top speed of 110 mph, yet as it gets older it gets faster!

That must be a first, a manufacturer claiming a top speed LOWER than the fact!

Well the top speed would have been tested with proper equipment by the manufacturers, not the speedo, which can over-read. But its not uncommon for a car to be a little bit faster from when it was new, as long as its been well maintained. My subaru feels like its got quite a bit better now with 34,000 miles than when it was brand new.

I've had mine for 3 years now and I love it, especially with its 2.0 Zetec fitted.

Has gone through 2 MOTs without needing any work, due again in November, so fingers crossed.

Cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, cheap classic insurance. You can't go wrong with an XR2, just watch for the rot under the body kit.

I race an XR2 with twin 45's, CVH27 Kent Camshaft, fully ported/flowed/tuned & timed head, Gaz rear adj shocks & Spax front adj shocks, 280lbs/ft front & 650lbs/ft rear springs & managed to get 120.73 mph on Snetterton's Revett Straight (with a slipstream). Don't see how it could go any faster, but around corners... it will catch & overtake all those so called 'race cars'. Good old Fords, you just can't beat them!

I have a XR2 with stage 2 bottom end and a stage 3 head, with piper cam twin 40s and full through exhaust. God knows how fast it will go, because I'm having trouble starting it. Only starts when I hold the chokes down and get my missus to start it. Anyone know what I can do? Please don't give me sarky comments about the stage 2 and 3 bit; it was my dad who said that when he did my head gasket.

Hasn't had an MoT yet either?
