Tie bone went on the way home from buying the car!
Have noticed a leak into the passenger's foot-well.
Engine sounds like a diesel.
Has almost no overtaking power. The Metro was better (1.4 GTa).
Holds the road extremely well.
It loves the motorway, puts almost every other car to shame!
Lovely gearbox (better than the Metro anyway).
Looks classy.
The small steering wheel gives a good race car feel!
Excellent driving position.
Well equipped for a basic model (electric windows, sunroof, power steering, ABS, lots of dials).
Fuel economy is good.
Performs well even though my history tells me it hasn't been serviced for 32,000 miles!
This car was recently written off by a taxi driver (head on). The airbag saved me from serious injury. The car handled the crash very well. Excellent crash protection.
It does sound like a diesel mostly.
Very comfortable car to drive.
My last car was a ford sierra 2.0 efi.
Good road holding.
I've heard there famous for sticking valves?
Sticking valves that someone mentioned, were, I believe only prevalent on the "Zetech" engines and "easily" remedied for those with the cash.

Of course they have overtaking power. You just have to rev it. I do think the zetec engine could do with a little bit more go low down. Maybe that's why the gears on my mk1 2.0 mondeo has a reasonably short ratio gearbox. My mates mk2 1.8 pulls 2500rpm compared with 3100 in mine. Still it can do 135mph! Not bad if you ask me.
135 on clock take away a 10% deficit and that's your speed.122mph.
The beauty of this car is the 2.0 16v zetec engine great economy, but when revved above 4500rpm it starts to really move!
I like fifth gear also, goes from 1500rpm all the way to 130mph; not bad for family car that returns 35-40mpg.
ONLY BIG PROBLEM I'VE FOUND IS THAT THE HEATER IS CRAP!

I read the comment about the 1.8 doing 135 with amusement, I ran a 2.5 v6 for a year and would only pull 130 on the flat, and no there was nothing wrong with it I've worked at a ford main dealer for 10 years, it did show 140 down hill once.
