1987 Ford Mustang GT 5.0L (302) from North America

Summary:

Very fun car

Faults:

Radiator went out, causing me to stay the night at a friend's house (girl), so I wouldn't say it was a completely bad thing.

5 speed transmission suffered a little bit of grinding, but never needed to be fixed.

General Comments:

In reference to the problem I had with the radiator, I think the only reason it broke is because the previous owner put a cheesy clutch driven fan on it, and it hit the radiator and cut the core, so I can't blame the car. Next day I replaced the radiator, and replaced the fan with a nice electric one.

The car was so much fun to own and drive, gas mileage sucked, but who cares? I knew that before I got into it. The car only let me down one time in the year that I had it, and I bought it at 16 years old, so I'd say that's pretty darn good.

Car was completely stock, just electric fan and flow master exhaust, sounded awesome. I have also been a Mustang fan, and still am. I have had 3 of them, and will always have at least one in the garage.

Not the most comfortable car, but very fun. I highly recommend a fox body Mustang, these cars rock.

1987 Ford Mustang LX 2.3L E.F.I. from North America

Summary:

Excellent cheap sports car

Faults:

Radiator needed replacement at 120.000 miles.

Alternator needed replacement at 120.000 miles.

General Comments:

Excellent, reliable, and with good power.

Very comfortable on the highway, and an overall great, cheap ride.

Timing forward the engine a tad, and adding large tires did a world of good to how this car handles.

An excellent overall experience!

1987 Ford Mustang LX 2.3 from North America

Summary:

Great little car

Faults:

Alternator repaired at 105,000 for around $40.

Timing belt went shortly after, a maintenance oversight on my part.

General Comments:

I have the hatchback, which is great for storage. The rear seats fold down flat and I have slept in it on several occasions, and have taken 3 people and all their gear for a 4 day camping trip.

It has always ran and started perfectly. I've had no problems whatsoever, other than the alternator, which was a quick repair.

The 2.3L 4banger is a bit sluggish, however that's to be expected with only 85 or so horses.

The seats are a bit uncomfortable for long trips.

1987 Ford Mustang LX 5.0L from North America

Summary:

Amazing car! Reliable and fast!

Faults:

Rear brakes.

Blew the automatic transmission, but that was not the car's fault (it's the price you pay for dragging your car).

General Comments:

I TOTALLY LOVE MY MUSTANG! When I bought her she was an automatic. I blew the transmission drag racing so now it is standard. The performance is amazing. It costs next to nothing to increase the performance. It rides very rough, but that is mainly due to the lowered suspension. I will never get rid of this car. It is fun to drive, great to look at and awesome to modify. If your looking for a V8 that'll put you ahead of the "pack" and making your friends envious... buy a Mustang! You won't regret it!

1987 Ford Mustang LX Convertable 2.3L from North America

Summary:

An underpowered poorly built pile

Faults:

Transmission melted down at 60,000 miles, rebuilt to Ford specs, melted down again at 71,700.

Cooling system failure at 65,000.

Exhaust needed full replacement at 67,000.

Air intake replaced at 61,500 with a big crack in the side. (No good reason.)

Electrical system had tons of failures, never found one general fault. (Fixed at least 5 minor problems in 6 months.)

General Comments:

I babied this car, never revved the engine, never spun the tires, changed the oil every 2900 miles, rotated tires regularly, and it just kept falling apart.

The handling was great, it's comfortable, it's a convertible, but I'll never buy another Ford after this. My previous Ford was great, and took getting rammed at 60mph very well, but Fix Or Repair Daily is almost right, at least bi-weekly.
