2005 Ford Mustang GT Convertible from North America - Comments

"A totally perfect car, if you can afford the gas"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

It has assorted light rattles, particularly one in the passenger side of the dash.

General comments?

The car is very fast, though it has a throttle management system (throttle-by-wire) that makes you feel a little disconnected sometimes as opposed to cable-driven throttles.

It really likes gas a lot. I drive my Jeep as a daily driver because it actually gets better gas mileage.

Everything has worked wonderfully. No issues with any quality control at all.

It handles very nicely. The ride is bumpy (which I like), as a performance car's should be.

It certainly turns head, at least right now. I get more looks than I ever dreamed I would. This is a seriously attractive car.

The convertible top works wonderfully, and it stores attractively without having to use a boot with its "Z-fold" mechanism.

The Chevy Cobalt SS features superior value, acceleration and handling. Plus it is a contemporary design, not a warmed over Ford Falcon!

The Cobalt! Yeah! Great suspension-the new Cavalier.

A warmed over Ford Falcon? Yeah, that's an intelligent statement. obviously you know nothing about cars. The Cobalt SS is an okay car in it's own right, but it isn't even near the same class as a Mustang so it is a ridiculous comparison. The Mustangs is still a real musclecar with a V-8 and rear wheel drive. Sadly, due to the SUV boom there are few of these cars left for sale as new cars. You shouldn't criticize any car you haven't owned or even driven and probably never will. Just stick to your warmed over Cavalier.

Why would someone that would consider driving a Cobalt have anything meaningful to say about a Mustang. If you have convinced yourself that the Cobalt is a better car, you are misguided but good for you. All of us that truely understand what a Mustang is about care what a Cobalt owner has to say.

Chevy is dying to come back anyways and there new cobalt is no match for the mustang. so I don't know how it is a better car then the mustang. the mustang is a true sports car not to be compared to a family sedan with a v6 engine.

True, you can't compare the Mustang to the Cobalt, but you should also know that the Cobalt doesn't come with a V-6 option.

NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBIC INCHES!!

The Mustang is a fast car, burns rubber forever, sounds great, drives great, handles and brakes decently, what more do you want for the price?? I'd take a 'Stang any day over a Cobalt.

The SS's engine is under a lot of stress to make it's power meaning more repairs down the road. Sure it could last if you drive the car grandma speed, but most will not. The Mustang's engine will last longer and you will not have to deal with as much torque steer from the front because of RWD.

There is little real competition for the V-8 Mustang. Some less reliable Japanese imports might almost match its performance, but at a cost of about 10 grand more. True, the Cobalt SS is a great car, and very fast. One magazine described it as the "fastest front drive car they had tested", making it even faster than the awesome (and now defunct) Neon SRT. However, the Cobalt SS costs as much as the Mustang GT and is not in the same class by any stretch of the imagination. NO front-drive compact, foreign or domestic, possesses the quality, handling, and passion of a real muscle car like the Mustang. I've owned 6 Mustangs and only traded my last one because the 11 miles per gallon was no longer practical. I'll miss it, but not the high gas cost.

Actually I just bought my supercharged cobalt ss for $21,000 with %0 interest, making my payments $300 with a extended warraty. The cobalt is a fast little car , but won't hold a candle to my other car, a 01 cobra with 4.30 gears, nitto drag radials, and some bolt ons, at least not in a 1/4 mile. But my cobra was costing me $475 a month on %0 (thank God its paid for!) and I really feel the cobalt is a much better buy. Not to mention that cobra never was good on gas stock, and now with the gears and mods it's a total gas hog that I never have and never will drive every day. The cobalt on the other hand gets 28-29 mpg and has a much nicer interior (not nicer than 05 mustangs).Basically, I would take the 05 mustang gt over the cobalt if price and fuel mileage is not a concern, but I would much rather have a cobalt than a v-6 mustang, which cost nearly as much, and will totally get blown into the weeds by a supercharged cobalt.

As much as I like mustangs and am going to own one. I know a few FWD cars that are foreign that will beat it around a track and on twisty roads.

Cars like the.

Honda Integra

Renault Clio 182

Mini Cooper works.

Are a few that come to mine. Not one of them has less than 180bhp and they weigh next to nothing with brilliant handling. But that's not why you buy a stang if you want a great handling car the stangs live rear axle does not help.

Comparing a Mustang Gt to a Cobalt SS is laughable at best.

You can get a nicely equipped GT for about 27k-29k, which is good for the car. A nicely equipped Cobalt SS, around 22k.

Sure there are other cars that will handle better and may beat the stang on a road course, but remember this. Back in the 60's the mini coopers were beating vettes on the road courses. Are you going to compare a vette to a mini cooper now?

You see, heres what I don't get. I have a 2005 Ford Mustang GT, and I bash the hell out of it. since I've owned it, I've put in 2 sets of tires, because I like my burnouts and racing on the track. and yet, I haven't had a single problem with anything. so, being that I drive my mustang like a maniac on the track, and also the open, deserted roads (never when people are around) and my car has been perfectly reliable and runs as good as day one, it makes me wonder what this fellow must have done to his mustang to make it behave such as it is. my friend owns a 2002 mustang GT, with 56000 miles on her and he hasn't had any problems with it! and I also have 23000 miles on mine.

Makes me wonder...

I was wondering.. some people say a mustang is hard to see out of.. because of its hood. is this true?

Why wasting time debating COBALT SS vs MUSTANG GT.. The Mustang GT will always be better in every aspects hands down.. I am not an Oval fan, but a General. My friend has a 5 speed 2005 convertible GT and he never successed beating my 2000 TRANS AM even with some mods. Sure you will say let's bring the mustang COBRA and then I will say bring the FIREHAWK or GTO. dollar for dollar and stock against stock I think the general is still ahead. I have to say that Mustangs are easier and cheaper to mod,. Now let's debate with real pony and no v6 or 4 cyl. or FWD and have fun...thanks.
