1995 Ford Probe SE from North America - Comments

"Money pit"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission problems galore. The original transmission lasted till 32,000 miles, Under warranty it was replaced.. again at 55,000 miles transmission problems.. extended warranty saved me that time. Now its slipping and jerking again.

Parts are very expensive. I've also had the control panel that works the rear defrost/rear wiper go out and the radio has went out as well. All I can say for this car is at least the A/C is good.

General comments?

Handles well, performance isn't the best for a car with such a sporty appearance.

Cheap alloy rims have discolored to a dull haze.

Even though it has problems (a lot of them) it's still a great looking car even though I'm planning on trading it soon and getting something else, not a FORD though, maybe a Toyota or Honda something that's reliable.. My sister bought a 1995 Geo Metro the same time I got this car and she hasn't had one problem yet, and I paid a lot more for my car!

All I have to say is quit complaining and buy yourself the rice mobile then. The Ford community will be a lot better off without you as a member. Cars are cars, and they all have problems, even the "ricers" (believe it or not!)

I have a 95 Ford Probe with 46,000 miles, and I have already experienced so many problems... particularly the transmission. My brother drives a Honda and he never had any problems with the car. I learned my lesson. I am never going to buy another American car again.

I just bought a 1995 Ford Probe SE. It is the best car I have ever had! I had a Mazda RX-7, but this car beats that car by a long shot. I've put very little money into it and it runs great. Very good A/C. Little air leak. The handling is exceptional. The only thing is my car is a little 4 cylinder engine. It would have been nice if it was a 6 cylinder. It is a great car for the price!!!!!

I just want to say that I own a 1995 Ford Probe SE and I have had very little problems with it. It has over 150,000 miles on it and still runs great. Maybe you just got one that has because of other reasons, like being wrecked. That doesn't mean that all 1995 Probes are bad cars. Quit complaining!!!

I have a 1995 Ford Probe SE and with about a thousand dollars in modifications it is faster than the GT. As far as the transmission goes I have 99,000 miles on my car with the stock transmission and it is still as good as the day I got it. Oh and also I don't know why some of you are making fun of imports because the engine in the SE is built by Mazda. -Dan.

I have a 1995 Ford Probe GT, V6 with a manual transmission. I have yet to encounter a problem.

I have read reviews that the probe has transmission and electrical problems which almost made me stay away from it. I had friends who owned them and they never complained, so I rose above all the complaining on the web and bought one.. best decision I've ever made. And for the comment on never buying another american made car.. or domestic. The engine is made buy mazda... same one in the mazda mx6.

Steven, I have a 96 Ford Probe SE. I've had it for 3 years and I'm about to put in my 4th transmission. I'm just as frustrated as you are. I have put more money into fixing the car than I did to buy it. I don't think you're complaining, just venting frustrations. When you put thousands of dollars into a vehicle, you should expect it to prove itself for at least 5 years. However, I do love the appearance.fad

Hello. I just purchased a 96 Ford Probe SE with 90,000 mils at an auction and it's a beautiful car inside and out! Runs great. Everything is still in mint condition. I haven't got to drive it much yet, but so far there are only a few little problems with it. Hopefully in the future I won't encounter anymore problems. I'am an American so therefor I go for American made cars, despite the engine made by Mazda.

Fix or repair daily, btw that tranny is made by ford, not mazda. Go read the reviews on the mazda 626's.They have the ford tranny.

The engine, drivetrain, and everything else in the Probe SE IS THE EXACT same thing as the MX-6. As far as the transmission goes the automatics are the ones with the problems; if it is a stick LEARN HOW TO DRIVE IT.

I am about to buy a 1995 Probe SE with a 2.0 DOHC 5 speed with 115,000 miles on the car, motor and tranny. The motor is the same thing that's in the Eclipses, Neons, Mazdas, Talons. The only thing that seperates all of them is the name, body style, and gearing. I have heard of people flipping the motors in the Probes and making them drifters which kick real ass.

I work at an auto shop and I know my stuff. The Probes can be made to be fast, yes they are a little bit harder to soup up. But here's a little secret - if you can find another 2.0 DOHC (which is in the SE's and base models), all you gotta do is find parts for a 2.0 DOHC engines. You could go the way japanese way and get a KLZE japanese motor, which is in the probes on the east side of the world for about a grand and do a swap. I recommend www.probeaddiction.com for that kinda stuff. There's also a bunch of body styling, performance, tranny and suspension stuff from their website. CHECK IT OUT!!!

I have bought a 95 Probe se. Best Car I ever had. Its got 180,000 miles all original no rust, ac works, and only paid 800 for it off some girl at work. she sold it so cheap because tranny light flashed. Drained all fluids, replaced spark plugs and reset computer, runs great shifts smooth through all gears, had it over a year now not one problem and no lights flashing. Great BUY...
