It should be pointed out here that the car had nearly 200k miles on it when he bought it. He doesn't say how many miles the replacement transmission had on it when it was put in.

Beyond that, any mechanic telling you that he can't find parts for these cars after three months of looking is likely lying to you. The Probe was made by Mazda and was essentially the same car (re-skinned) as the Mazda MX6. Surely he could have found a transmission out of one of those two cars in under three months. Unless, of course, he was looking for the cheapest thing he could possibly find just so he could charge you again in a few months to replace it again.

Given that they charged you $2k to fix a bumper that seemingly had nothing wrong with it, it's not unreasonable to think they shafted you on the transmission repair as well.

Yea the Probe is a very nice car, you just have to take very good care of them!!!

I am not sure the transmission doesn't just go like that!! You would have rag the hell out of it to have it go!! Did you race it??

The headlight issue - the motor just went bad, it happens on all the Probes. Mine were stuck up for a while too!!!

The Probes need special attention, cuz believe me they are not chaep to fix!!!

If it takes 3 months to replace the tranny, you need to find a new mechanic. And the check engine light coming on right after the tranny is installed is the mechanics fault, not the cars. Treat it better!!!
