"Only purchase this car if you have a plethora of monetary resources, no job, and lots of time"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission locked up/froze 4 months after purchase and 1 month after warranty expired on parts and labor. Replacement transmission took 3 months to replace.

2nd transmission locked up/froze 4 months after being repaired. Replacement took 3 months to find problem, parts, and complete the labor.

Airbag light started to blink on and off and engine light always on after last transmission replacement.

Front right headlight just stopped working.

Right front blinker stopped working.

Spring to gas cover broke.

Front bumper fell off backing out of parking lot. Repairs to front bumper cost $2,000.00. Auto body shop unable to determine why bumper fell off. No external damage to bumper, damage at site of bolts.

General comments?

I would never recommend this car to anyone- ever.

This has been the worst car experience I have ever had.

However, the seats are comfortable and the trunk has a lot of room. Nice body and smooth ride when the car works.

You have no idea what your talking about do you? you don't just back up out of a parking lot and have your bumper fall off. The only reason that stuff is happening to your car is because you treat it like crap!!

Have to agree with that previous comment. Two transmissions going in such a short time seems pretty suspicious. All of the other issues seem pretty minor to me. You should take better care of your car.

It should be pointed out here that the car had nearly 200k miles on it when he bought it. He doesn't say how many miles the replacement transmission had on it when it was put in.

Beyond that, any mechanic telling you that he can't find parts for these cars after three months of looking is likely lying to you. The Probe was made by Mazda and was essentially the same car (re-skinned) as the Mazda MX6. Surely he could have found a transmission out of one of those two cars in under three months. Unless, of course, he was looking for the cheapest thing he could possibly find just so he could charge you again in a few months to replace it again.

Given that they charged you $2k to fix a bumper that seemingly had nothing wrong with it, it's not unreasonable to think they shafted you on the transmission repair as well.

Yea the Probe is a very nice car, you just have to take very good care of them!!!

I am not sure the transmission doesn't just go like that!! You would have rag the hell out of it to have it go!! Did you race it??

The headlight issue - the motor just went bad, it happens on all the Probes. Mine were stuck up for a while too!!!

The Probes need special attention, cuz believe me they are not chaep to fix!!!

If it takes 3 months to replace the tranny, you need to find a new mechanic. And the check engine light coming on right after the tranny is installed is the mechanics fault, not the cars. Treat it better!!!
