1996 Ford Windstar GL 3.8L V6 from North America

Summary:

It started out great, but has turned into a money pit!

Faults:

I guess we are fortunate that our van has lasted this long. I started having problems about 2 days after making the final payment. It started with a severe "chugging" and the check engine light.

I have replaced the front brakes 4 times!!!

The dome light stays on and the door ajar alarm will go on dinging for several minutes.

The power locks have just started to fail.

The turn signal/wiper lever is no longer functioning.

The passenger side power window will not go down.

The car will run smoothly for about a minute then run rough for approx. 45 seconds. It cycles this way pretty continually. Does anyone have any ideas or is it time to give up the battle?

1996 Ford Windstar GL 3.0 from North America

Summary:

Needs to be retired

Faults:

Engine problems, and various other things.

General Comments:

The van is big and comfy, enough room to seat our family, but it's had a lot of problems. I think this vehicle was once reliable, but it's over due for a retirement.

Our engine "blew" at about 120,000 miles, and I thought it must have been my fault, but after reading the reviews and how common of a problem this is, I realize that it probably wasn't (a huge relief)

I've also experienced power steering fluid leaks and a problem with the serpentine thing. Last week it started leaking oil, and water, and we can't figure out from where. It's not losing from the radiator, it's being lost from the rear of the engine.

I would not recommend that a family purchase this vehicle unless by some miracle they found one with very few miles on it, otherwise, it is just an unneeded expense. Believe me, we owe my in-laws thousands of dollars in repair loans for this vehicle. At it's age, with how many miles it has on it, it has become nothing more than a sinking ship.

A word to the wise - a 10 year old vehicle with high mileage is never a good deal unless it's free, because you'll only end up paying more in repairs than what the car is worth.

An Fabulous Used-Automobile

I've only had the car for 7 months now and I've only encountered these following problems...

- Front struts needed replacement at 150,324 miles.

- Sliding door needed to be re-aligned.

- Seats have started to slightly wear.

General Comments:

Ford has outdone itself again. Although this is my first car, my family has had many Ford's before. This car has many unique and dis functional qualities. They are...

PROS:

- A great car for moving you and your friends around town.

- Has very comfortable seats.

- Can accelerate quickly and stay that high for parkway or around town use.

- Has a very stylish interior and exterior design.

- Has great cargo room while both the second and third rows are up.

- Has a cool second row radio with earphone jacks so when me and the front passenger can talk, the rear people can listen to music.

- There are so many great features I cannot describe them all.

CONS:

- The one side sliding door. Although it is inconvenient, I really don't have a HUGE problem with it.

- The Car is great so there isn't many cons on this car.

* I would recommend this car to any first time drivers, It's the best for me!
