1993 Geo Tracker from North America - Comments

"The best car I have owned."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Fuel pump had to be replaced at 108,000 miles. $600 for the pump from the dealer. I couldn't get one from anywhere else.

Threads in the soft top dissolve quickly. Garage kept.

General comments?

I love my tracker. Other than the dealership trying to rob me by saying additional things were wrong, that really weren't, when I had fuel pump replaced, I have almost no complaints.

I am buying my third soft top for it tomorrow because the threads dissolve quickly. Considering they run $250+, it gets rather annoying. Supposedly the newer tops use better threads, hopefully that will be true.

This car has been completely reliable. The only time it didn't start up quickly and perfectly was when the fuel pump went out.

I am also replacing my first headlight tomorrow. Not bad for ten years.

I have had no problems with rust or any of the interior plastic.

The ride is pretty rough, it shakes horribly on rough roads. The suspension could be a lot better.

I am alittle worried that the Mitsubishi ECM (the car's computer) will go out soon. Supposedly they are defective if manufactured between 88-95. That will be about $600 more.

The interior light is very dim.

It handles very well.

It has been a super car. I will never sell it. Very reliable. I can't tell a difference between the day I got it and today, it runs like new.

Well its been over two years and 12,000 miles since I posted the review above. Since then the water pump went out. I replaced it, some hoses, all the belts, and the thermostat. The muffler rusted, and I replaced it. The car started running a bit hot on hot (Florida) days with the AC turned on. I had been planning on getting that looked at and fixed, but every weekend I was going to a hurricane decided to visit and postpone the repairs.

Those repairs will probably never happen. Two nights ago someone ran into my parked tracker and totaled it. I will miss it. Trackers built around this year are really dependable and in my experience require few repairs. I will probably get another tracker of this model. Either that or a new CR-V.

And to append to my most recent comment...

I didn't buy the new top. I ended up taking my top to a shop that makes sail boat sails. They cross-stitched it with marine grade thread for $20. They had no problem doing it and had it done in an hour. I suggest this to anyone that has a good top that the stitching is coming loose on.

My 93 tracker was a great car as I have said above. After I lost mine to a tragedy, I purchased a 95 Tracker with the same millage. This Tracker has been nothing, but problems. About 3 months into ownership I had to replace the transmission. Now I have to replace the brake booster because the darn thing kept eating master cylinders. Found a new oil leak. Someone didn't love their Tracker. Maybe I just got lucky with my 93.

Great Review and following comments, sorry to hear you haven't gotten the same quality out of your 95 tracker.

I own a 93 suzuki vitara/sidekick the tracker is a rebadged vitara... good reliability because its japanese not american, same reason the geo prizm is so good because the car is a corolla rebadged.

Geos are good bargains because the price doesn't hold up as much as the originals yet they are the same thing.

I had a newer car a 2001 mitsu, but had problems and got the reliable vitara, it's a great car and I love it.

I still have my original top, but absolutely agree with the tops stitching rotting out. I still have my original top (152k) by having someone use a commercial type thread that doesn't rot so easily.

My tracker has just recently died with 152k miles on it (with a trade in value if it were running of $91, whoopee). Trying to figure out what is wrong with it...
