The ignition went out once when I first got it, but a 15$ repair fixed that problem.
It's a great truck, I've had it for 3 years and I've never had a lick of trouble from her. I'd never let her go, when I first got her I left her alone. Then I souped it up and shes still doing wonders for me. The engine, and trannie are still stock and let me tell you. There unbreakable. Engine gives decent power, can cruise easily enough around 70 on the highway. The MPG isn't anything to write home about, but its not bad.
Hey man! looks like u've had a lot of luck with the truck. I just got a GMC, 1985 S-15. It's in great shape, but the steering column was all over the place. I repaired it and every since then, it's been runnign like a dream. so, yes, I agree with you 100% that they're good trucks.

I Love my GMC 1986, but would like for someone to send me any info on. I just replaced a fuel pump and have leakage at the transmission. I want to know this truck inside and out for restoration, so anybody that can help, help!DGUNSAULIES@woh.rr.com.
Yes the GMC S 15 is what I drive right now and let me tell you it is a really good vehicle, I have even taken it off road and it has outperformed a 1998 Toyota Tacoma, the only thing I would change is make it not have a carburetor.
I have a 1985 S-15 and this truck is great. Just bought it with 110000 miles and it runs like a new one.. Just wondering if anyone knew what size motor is in it..I know it's a 4 cylinder, but all I can tell it says something.9l Does anyone know the first number? E-mail me at ofchowell@yahoo.com.
I bought a 1985 GMC S15. Worst small truck made. Made of recycled iron. Pieces of junk. Blow rods whenever. So I Smashed mine to pieces with a D7H Caterpillar.
My 1985 GMC S-15 is the best vehicle I have ever owned. The mileage isn't great, but everything else about it is. I'm the third owner. I'm amazed at how strong the frame is. Much stronger than the modern small pickups. It's comfortable to drive and the engine sounds great, if a little loud.
It's just your basic, solid, classic mid-eighties truck. I absolutely love it.
I own a 1985 GMC S15 Pickup, and love the way it handles, drives, and the gas mileage on the 2.5L FI engine is around 28 mpg.
It has a long bed, which I like for light hauling, and even with the four speed geared very low, the truck still hauls very nicely.
I got the 85, 4 cylinder, and nothing to complain about. I love this truck, and it's been passed down to me from my great grandfather, and this truck has been through hell, it handled more than my 93 Blazer ever could do.
