Developed somewhat severe knock retard at around 50,000 miles.
Used as a daily driver, it is beginning to rust under cladding.
Stock air duct cracked on both ends, GM discontinued the part so I had to hunt one down.
I dreamed of owning a Typhoon for years. Turbocharged to 15psi, full time all-wheel drive, 285 horses with over 400 foot/pounds of torque, this is a dream machine. A sport utility that can out-accelerate and out-perform most sports cars, this limited run truck is an absolute blast to drive. I have every intention of keeping this truck for many many years, with hopes of adding its older pickup brother, the Syclone, as well as possibly a second Ty, to my lot.
I love the Ty, but where did you get a figure of over 400 ft/lbs of torque? I'm guessing the truck is stock because you only said 285 horses, but there's about 350 ft/lbs of torque in the typhoon. Just thought you should know.
As a typhoon owner, I can state that the stock truck power rating is 285hp and 360ft/lbs of torque. The SY/Ty homepage is also a great place to learn about these rare trucks. I hope I have helped.
I just sold my big block 69 conv corvette and I am definitely buying a typhoon. it has been a dream since was a little boy to own one of those. going to pick it up next weekend, can't wait to test it. sorry for my poor English. are from Norway!!!
The TY is a pretty cool ride, but the new Trailblazer SS dominates
* 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and quarter mile in 14.1 sec with towing capacity of 6700lbs it not only looks mean, but it delivers in every way possible the TY was a good start, but the ls2 v-8 engine takes the cake.
I've always wanted a Typhoon and I am picking up a 93 Ty in 2 days. I currently own a supercharged Silverado SS so I looking forward to lining them up to see what one will be quicker.
The trailblazer may look mean, but that's the beauty of the Ty/Sy. Who expects someone in an "S10" V6 to blow the doors off of their souped up ricer? The Trailblazer SS is no doubt, sweet. But that mean sounds can give away a fast car anyday.
I agree that the Trailblazer SS rocks, with 395 horsepower, the SS badge on it could also stand for "Street sleeper" as most people who saw it would think it is just a regular SUV until they try and race it and would be very embarrassed. I'm not so sure about the 5.5 0-60, when they tested it on Motorweek, they saw a BEST 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds and the quarter mile was 14.3 seconds at 97MPH, still incredibly fast, though.
I just purchased a ty over the weekend. The vehicle has been in Japan since new, owned by a guy in the military. I live in Pgh, PA and drove down to Iowa to pick it up. The vehicle only has 36k and every aftermarket part that's available. I own a 05 Viper and the ty is just as fast. This is an awesome vehicle which was worth the trip.
I own a 1992 TY and love it to death. it wa a graduation present. I also work at a Chevy dealership and drive Vettes and the T-blz SS weekly. the ty is still my choice.
I have a 93 ty and I like driven it better then my 06 GTO my wife grandnational is a little funner, but know body will race you in the gn every body knows about them not a lot of people know about the ty.
