General Comments:
Hey all.
Just noticed the VE SS only had one report on here, and it's a neg! I just wanted to say I've been driving my SS for the last 4 months, and the car just gets better and better everyday.
Sure it's thirsty and not great to park. But if I wanted a "get about", I would have got an Astra turbo. The VE is a serious muscle car and should be treated like one from the day dot. The harder you drive it, the more it opens up; the 6.0L V8 loves getting hammered in the 1st 1000kms, and doesn't burn a drop of oil as a result.
I highly recommend not getting suckered into the V model. You can option on the leather, big wheels, chunky sports steering and get something useful like reverse sensors (instead of the LCD display) and pay about 2 grand less for the car with nicer wheels and more practical options.
The comfort in the cabin is almost second to none in the home grown market.
If I had to fault the car, I would say - the rear spoiler makes visibility a little tricky, but you do get used to it. And I give the sound system a generous 7/10.
Where it counts; the throttle response, the nearly endless power, the balanced clutch, the notchy - short shifting gear box (obviously manual), handling, suspension, smooth brakes - with adequate bite if needed, and the positioning of all instruments; all come up full points.
This is a real drivers car - if you're worried about fuel consumption, or are not sure if you need a V8, don't purchase this car.
If you love the sound and push of a rear wheel drive V8 beast, do not hesitate.
Biggest tips:
- Get the leather and upsize the wheels.
- Get the rear assist, especially if you live in a city, this car is a LARGE sedan.
- Drive it like you it's stolen for the 1st 2000kms; your engine will love you for it.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
