2007 Holden Commodore VE 6.0 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Puts a smile on my face everyday; worth every cent!!

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

Hey all.

Just noticed the VE SS only had one report on here, and it's a neg! I just wanted to say I've been driving my SS for the last 4 months, and the car just gets better and better everyday.

Sure it's thirsty and not great to park. But if I wanted a "get about", I would have got an Astra turbo. The VE is a serious muscle car and should be treated like one from the day dot. The harder you drive it, the more it opens up; the 6.0L V8 loves getting hammered in the 1st 1000kms, and doesn't burn a drop of oil as a result.

I highly recommend not getting suckered into the V model. You can option on the leather, big wheels, chunky sports steering and get something useful like reverse sensors (instead of the LCD display) and pay about 2 grand less for the car with nicer wheels and more practical options.

The comfort in the cabin is almost second to none in the home grown market.

If I had to fault the car, I would say - the rear spoiler makes visibility a little tricky, but you do get used to it. And I give the sound system a generous 7/10.

Where it counts; the throttle response, the nearly endless power, the balanced clutch, the notchy - short shifting gear box (obviously manual), handling, suspension, smooth brakes - with adequate bite if needed, and the positioning of all instruments; all come up full points.

This is a real drivers car - if you're worried about fuel consumption, or are not sure if you need a V8, don't purchase this car.

If you love the sound and push of a rear wheel drive V8 beast, do not hesitate.

Biggest tips:

- Get the leather and upsize the wheels.

- Get the rear assist, especially if you live in a city, this car is a LARGE sedan.

- Drive it like you it's stolen for the 1st 2000kms; your engine will love you for it.

Have driven a few now... yes great muck around car! Sounds good, handles great and most of all... looks hot.

Use to own an earlier model SS. Spoilers suck for reversing trailer! Have fun. :-)

2007 Holden Commodore SS-V 6.0L V8 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Rubbish, and would never recommend a Holden Commodore SS-V to anyone

Faults:

Fuel pump has blown up.

Computer blew up.

Satellite navigation hard drive blew up.

Car continually stalls.

Keep in mind this car only has 4123km. The car has lived in the workshop since I bought it in May 2007. I should have bought a Honda.

General Comments:

The car is good to drive, when I do drive it.

I really feel for you. While I have never owned a Commodore, I have always been a Holden guy. Having owned various models including a recent Vectra.

Whilst the Holden Vectra is really an Opel, the one I owned was a lemon. It was constantly at Holden for warranty repairs and Holden were not in the least interested and treated me like some kind of fool.

The best thing I did was get rid of this car and bought a new Honda just before the extended warranty ran out.

The servicing is cheaper, the staff are happy, and best of all, nothing has gone wrong with it after 10 months and 8,000 km's. It's economical, modern and well built.
