1984 Honda Accord 5 speed from North America

Summary:

Best car I ever bought!

Faults:

A/C never worked.

Head gasket blew at 200,000 miles.

Had to tighten the emergency brake a few times.

Spare had dry rotted away when I needed it (my fault).

General Comments:

This was the best car I ever owned! Bought it for $1200, and it got me through college and multiple road trips. I never had any problems with this car (other than A/C didn't work) until the head gasket blew at 200,000 miles. At this point I was done with school and bought a newer model (which was no where near as good as this one!).

This car is super good on gas, easy to drive and 100% reliable.

I totally agree with the person who said it handles like a go kart. I still see them on the road occasionally, and wish I could hop in for a drive.

A great choice for a cheap, reliable car!

1984 Honda Accord LX 1.8 from North America

Summary:

I love my Honda!

General Comments:

I purchased this car with only 25,000 miles. That's right twenty five as in 25k. It was the proverbial car that was driven by an old lady, the one a used car salesman dreams of.

I had it serviced with a required a tune up of oil change, spark plugs and wires, front rotors and pads, rear drums cut, with new pads there, fluids topped off and ready to go. The car weighs only 2100lb. and has an 84hp. engine. Cost of maintenance 650.00, cost of car 1000.00.

Engine hums like a sewing machine, cruises well @3,000r.p.m.s @ 80mph no shake or rattle, great on gas with that good Honda reliability thrown in. Looking forward to many miles ahead.

1984 Honda Accord LX 1.8 carbureted from North America

Summary:

This car is fun and reliable!

Faults:

Driver's door sags.

Small rip in driver's seat.

A/C and cruise control not working.

Replaced front driver side hub and bearings.

Crankshaft pulley came loose, but put the bolt and washer back in and re-torqued it.

Not pretty.

General Comments:

I paid $600.00 for this car in May of last year.

When I purchased the car, the driver's door was sagging, there was a rip in the driver's seat, the A/C and cruise control didn't work, and the wheel bearings needed replaced.

Tuned it up and changed the oil, then put it through D.E.Q. (which it passed). The car is 25 years old and now exempt. Great economical car that is fun to drive. Not the quickest car, but it has been reliable. Starts right up every time. Needs a little cosmetic work.

1984 Honda Accord LX 1.8 liter, carb from North America

Summary:

Great to drive, but high failure rate

Faults:

Practically everything has gone wrong. This is the first "bad luck" car I have owned. It was previously my mother's car and she had practically everything replaced over the years. Just last week the head gasket blew. The carburetor was replaced last month. I'm used to cars running with less maintenance.

General Comments:

Nice to drive in general. I really like it and it's a pity the repairs have been so extensive. I've owned several Toyotas with more than 200k and practically no problems.

1984 Honda Accord LX Hatchback 1.8 Liter from North America

Summary:

It's a car that can hold its own and can get you there quickly, comfortably and very, very cheaply

Faults:

Steering column ignition switch shorted out at 195000.

Cylinder head gasket leaked when I bought it.

Driver side door lock switch (inside) broken when I bought it.

Rust beginning to show more and more.

General Comments:

The car purrs like a cat.

The seats are comfortable for medium distance rides, but not for 4 hour non-stop trips.

It can haul almost anything and I have.

It doesn't pull away at a stoplight, but 35 miles per gallon with the A/C on makes up for it.

Commuting and parking is a breeze.

With gas a $3/gallon, my bill still doesn't cross $30 dollars and I can go 500+ miles.

1984 Honda Accord LX 1.8 from North America

Summary:

Great car no matter how it looks

Faults:

The car needed some work when I got the car. When I got the car, the blower motor for the heat and air didn't work. I found a mouse nest in it and that was the problem. I had already purchased a new one and I replaced it anyway. I have replaced the spark plugs and air filter not much else. When I got the vehicle it needed a muffler.

General Comments:

I can't't complain I was given the car from a guy I tried to purchase it from several months before. I new this was a great car. The car had not been on the road for 4 years before I got it. After getting a key made for the car, I chabged the oil, plugs and air filter. I added fresh gas and added a little in the car carburetor and then tried to start it. It started up with no problem. I have have driven it ever since and it runs great and get awesome gas mileage for a 1984.
