We got our Accord for the 2003 Model year when it was surrounded by hype for being "ALL NEW". We had to wait 3 months to get one in our color and features. When it finally arrived, we were very excited and happy. But after about a year, it was not all good. During a maintenance, we were told that the front brakes were 90% used and the had to be replaced. WHAT A LEMON!. Also, we were noticing tears in the leather and we never put anything sharp or heavy in the car. Also, the drivers seat had a back support feature on it, which broke, so the whole seat had to be replaced. Along with the brakes, another major repair was caused by the radio screen going blank. The screen along with the entire center console had to be replaced. A repair that would have cost over $1,000. You would think Honda has superb quality, NOT REALLY! The interior looks very nice and the dashboard is made with high quality plastic, but there were problems. There was a transmission re-call at Honda and also, the car was at the body shop for 4 days because the exterior body trim was PEELING OFF!
Also, if you are planning to buy an Accord, do not buy the 4 cylinder version. Gas mileage is poor and way higher than listed, so you might as well get the V6, which has more power and more extra features, like driver and front passenger electric adjusted seats.
ATTENTION: Contrary to what you would expect, this honda has LOW RE-SALE VALUE. I got an Explorer from work and wanted to downgrade my Accord for a new, but smaller car that was on warranty. I could not even trade in my accord for a BASIC CIVIC! The best car I could get was a Chevy Cobalt. To get a DX (basic) Civic, I would need to pay 3,000. I am really disappointed with Honda Re-Sale value!
Wow, where do you live. My neighbor just totalled his Accord like yours and he got 18,000 dollars for his. Though we are dealing with an insurance company, I do not think you would have any better luck with Toyota. I have found them to be a little bit lower than Honda with resale value because they built many more. In my market area I found that Honda Accords cost more than the Camrys.
Wow I just got slightly over $10,000 for my 2002 TL TYPE S... and it only had 41,000 miles. They pulled a Car Fax and saw my repairs/trans...
Are you serious? If you think the re-sale value on a used Accord is low your really going to be dissapointed with the Chevy Cowball's value after the same period. If your concerned about quality your really going to wish you had the Accord back after 4-5 years. Good luck.
I looked in my classified ads and found that an 2003 Acura TL costs about 14,995-16,995 us dollars. I also found that Audi's and the BMW 3 series that compete with the Acura are at that same price for 01-03. As many problems there are with the Acura's Tranny, that is not the reason the prices are so low. As far as I can see, the cars that compare to the Acura have the same value in the used car market.
The 2002 Type S was not included in the class action suit. I have children that could have been jeopardized with its continued ownership and sudden instant trans failures as I drive the interstates. I also am a mature sensible individual who overmaintained the vehicle only at the dealership. In addition when you sell the Carfax inevitably comes up and when they see multiple trans issues it affects the selling price. Your comment is also a year newer a 2003. Looking in the paper is not always giving you what people will spend. I sold it for a third of what it cost new... bottom line. The trans even when replaced is an inherent weakness. It was fun to drive, but not safe or dependable.
2003 Honda Accord 2.4L 4 cyl with 125,000 miles. I had the same problem with the radio screen going dark and the service guy said that Honda is aware of the problem. Even though it was out of warranty, they fixed it in one day at no charge. In terms of gas mileage, I have no complaints. Combined city/hwy, I get 26 mpg usually. On the highway, I get just over 30 mpg. As far as oil changes go, I always use synthetic oil at change the oil and filter every 10,000 miles (with either Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntech). My only problem is that the passenger area's accessory plug's fuse keeps blowing. I'll be taking it in to see why that's happening. Overall: Very satisfied.
