1992 Honda del Sol SiR 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Love this car, quick and reliable, Honda's just can't be beaten

Faults:

The roof can leak in heavy rain, this has only happened since I had an accident and the door needed to be replaced.

Boot didn't work also, but now working perfectly!

General Comments:

Very quick. Handles brilliantly. Easy to drive. Sturdy little car.

Convertible at the touch of a switch. Ahead of its time.

Very very reliable; have had 2 and both never let me down.

1992 Honda del Sol Sir 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Not the car I was hoping for

Faults:

I have come to realise that the car is useless at stopping on a wet or greasy road. No matter how I try to brake, all wheels lock and I go into a skid.

The electric roof rattles like crazy.

The boot leaks.

The roof leaks to the extent that in a recent storm, the drivers' seat was soaked through in the morning. Normally, I just get a few drips in.

The flimsy material on the drivers seat became very worn and torn very quickly.

The hub assembly on both the back wheels has had to be totally replaced at high cost because it is apparently not possible to just replace worn wheel bearings.

General Comments:

I bought my DOHC 1.6 VTEC Sir Honda del-sol 3 years ago as a Japanese import.

Quite frankly, it is the worst car I have ever owned.

OK, it has brilliant performance (but not as good as my old Mk1 Toyota MR2) but the problems I have had with it far outweigh the performance.

I would have to take too much of a loss on the car if I sold it, but I wish I had never parted with my MR2.

Sounds like you should have got one with ABS which is often a factory option on an import, not something that comes as standard most of the time on UK cars.

My SI-r Is fantastic...

Has NONE of the above listed problems and has ABS... Stops dead in the wet even with Remoulds I had on a track day.

Sounds like you just had a nasty model!!!
