I had to replace the clutch at 180,000 miles.
I had to replace the radiator at 210,000.
The seats wear badly.
The roof leaks when it rains hard.
You have to buy an aftermarket radio since the one in the car has no power.
This is the most fun car I have ever owned. I bought it for $2000 with 152,000 miles on it four years ago. I currently have 211,000 miles. I have done nothing, but routine maintenance on the car. I beat the car regularly by driving it hard and speeding often. The car won't die. Even with this many miles on it, I average 35+ mpg. Make sure you add a K&N air filter because it definitely increased my gas mileage.
If you're considering this car I say buy. By far the best car I've ever owned.
Thank You for the review of your del sol.
Looking at your posting is similar to looking into the future of my del sol! I expect mine to last as long as yours has so far!
The answer to your question as to how long your car will survive I suggest that most vehicles outlive their current owners.
As to which of you will last longer I have no idea! Never-the-less, good luck to both of you!
Svelte Bat (name of my del sol)
I currently own a 1993 del Sol, d15b7 motor with the automatic tranny.
Peppy lil beast, has been very reliable. It does burn oil, I am the 6 or 7 owner at only 189k miles, but I baby it with 2500-4500 mile oil changes. No additives, just a seafoam cleaning every 25k miles.
Handles like crap with 4 broken springs and 2 worn struts, but handles better than some new American economy cars.
Body has very little rust, and the top does leak a little bit.
Overall, I'm surprised at how it has kept itself so durable after years of torture at a track and northern winters.
Mine's white, and it's basically a chick magnet if it's all waxed - DOUBLE WIN.
