Our original Fit was not cut in half, but much of the rear body pieces and axle from the donor were used to put it back together. The body man that fixed it did an exceptional job and I was expecting a more substantial bill for the repair. Since the man that did the work has more than 20 years of experience I trust him when he tells me it’s put together right. The wheel bearings in the donor axle are a little noisy and I will replace them soon. Our Honda drives straight and smoothly. I’ll post periodically as time marches on.

Apparently it was easier to cut the parts car in half than to just remove the parts needed?

All the severely damaged parts had to be cut and welded. I always felt the factory sound system in this Honda was decent. Leave it to a teenager to decide that updated tunes in this car were necessary. A new Pioneer double din head unit and four JL audio door speakers make this small car sound like a rolling concert hall. We spent the extra money on a steering wheel interface to keep the steering wheel radio controls working.

Still enjoy driving the Honda and it just rolled over to 155,000 miles.
It gets driven daily and rarely needs anything other than fuel.
Regular oil changes.
Two replacement batteries.
Spark plugs replaced once.
Engine air filters.
1 transmission service.
1 set of rear brakes.
Multiple sets of front brakes. I use Auto Zone Gold with a lifetime warranty, I have only paid for one set of pads, the rest have been replaced free.
A couple of front rotors and turned them when needed. I guess this car is so light weight it has never warped the front rotors. I’ve never let the rotors get destroyed by worn out pads.
On 4th set of tires.
Two windshields thanks to road debris.
Many sets of wiper blades.
Three headlight bulbs.
One major reconstruction from being totaled just so our family could squeeze all the good out of it.
Rear wheel bearings.
Still peppy with a strong engine and transmission.

I admire your loyalty to this car and I applaud your desire to get continued use out of it. And yet, welding or otherwise amalgamating two half shells back together would seem to compromise structural integrity. I’d be skeptical that $2500 worth of work at a body shop could buy you an adequate, professional job that would fully restore the car to a safe standard. Seems like your son is a little accident prone. Aren’t you worried that if he gets hit again, that car will fold up and shatter?
