Timing belt broke at about 135,000 miles.
Leak in transmission.
A/C is getting weak.
Exhaust corrosion.
Leak in the moon roof.
Previous owner didn't wax it enough so rust holes have developed on the body around the wheels and paint is cracked all around. It is currently in the shop getting a new door put on (wreck) and while it is in I am getting other dents and dings taken out, the rust holes filled and a new paint job.
I am looking to get a new exhaust system soon.
I just came across your review of the 91 prelude. almost identical to mine. rust and corrosion and the side and the paint is flaking away. I've got the dents and all. heh. during the last rain the roof decided to leak on my friends head. and the ac is thoroughly dead.
I can't comment on the rust/paint issues as my '91 has no problems of any kind like that, but the timing belt issue is really the responsibility of the owner. A buyer of a car with that many miles needs to find out if the timing belt has been changed and, if not or unknown, needs to have it done. That issue is on the buyer/new owner.
NOT a "good first car for teens"!
The thing has a 1-star driver's front crash-test rating by 1997 standards.
AKA it is a death trap!
Most late 80s cars are safer.
...other than that it's a pretty nice car.
