1999 Hyundai Accent LS 1.3 from Greece

Summary:

An absolute disgrace.

Faults:

New clutch at 70,000km.

Recently changed parts include rear bearing, front CV joint, front shocks, battery and the regular serviceable items (brake pads, oil, filters, etc.)

Quality of plastics and interior trim very poor - both rear door handles have broken, sun visor clip broke off in my hands, seat fabric tore very easily, repeated rattling noises from within the dashboard, and too many more to go on listing... and all with normal use, not abuse.

Central locking on passenger door doesn't always work.

Driver's side window doesn't close properly.

Has recently developed a mysterious knocking noise whilst turning right.

General Comments:

This is the worst car I have ever owned.

I bought this car as a temporary replacement after my previous car was written off in an accident, and has given me nothing but grief from the very first day of ownership.

Do not be tempted by the cheap price - you will more than pay over the amount saved in service, parts and labor in the long run.

Not to mention its Euro NCAP rating - one of the worst.

Buying this car has been a huge mistake and a spectacular disappointment. I will never ever buy another Hyundai. Period.

1999 Hyundai Accent GL from North America

Summary:

Would not buy again!

Faults:

When the car had less than 3000 miles on it, it started to rust.

After 3 years the fan went and exhaust pipe had to be fixed.

With the second set of brakes, new rotors were needed.

At 4 years a new alternator was needed.

And at the 5th year, the oil pan was rusted through, the exhaust manifold fixed and the transmission went.

General Comments:

Although the interior of the car was great and easy to upkeep and there was a lot of space in front and back for passengers, it seemed as if I was constantly putting money into the car.

I think the reason all the rusting happened was you did not wash it appropriately. I had one that I sold, but it had no rust on it, my brother had one he did no ever wash and it was a rust bucket.

Faults:

Summary:

Great bargain

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is one of the best cars I've ever had. Even at 50,000 miles and not one tune up I still consistently get 350 miles to the 11 gal. tank. This car is a true champ!!!

1999 Hyundai Accent GL 1.5L from North America

Summary:

A waste of time and money

Faults:

1 week after purchase had to take car in because they forgot to replace a part on the transmission.

1 year after purchase had to take car in for electrical trouble. Bright lights were flashing by themselves.

2 1/2 years after purchase, car wouldn't shift into overdrive. Inhibitor switch replaced under warranty.

4 years after purchase car again wouldn't shift into overdrive. TOok car into shop and they lied to me about the warranty. Paid $400 to replace pulse generator.

Only 1 month after that, car again won't shift into overdrive. Dealership unwilling to work with me about the problem. Took car in, 2 days later they still hadn't looked at the car.

Now taking car, even though not paid off to Ford Dealership and trading it in. Have paid $1100 in repairs for car. It is only worth $1500.

General Comments:

Car is unreliable and dealerships lie and are unwilling to help. Will NEVER buy another Hyundai again.

I am willing to lose money and get a new vehicle rather than ever drive this one again.

1999 Hyundai Accent from North America

Summary:

OK purchase, but won't be repeated

Faults:

Headlight, taillights and tag lights have been replaced over a dozen times all together.

Now, my dashboard lights come and go as they please. I have had this checked out many times and everyone tells me that they can't see a problem.

The brakes click when coming to a complete stop.

There is a slight whistling noise when I accelerate.

General Comments:

While there have been no major problems (yet) the electrical problems are a nuisance.

The car is easily dented and the paint scratches very easily.

I am impressed with the way the car handles in bad weather, even though I have to add weight to the trunk in the winter time.
