1997 Hyundai Tiburon FX 2.0 from Netherlands

Summary:

Dream car

Faults:

I have had my Tiburon 3 years now, and so far the only problem I had was a broken glove-box lock which was fixed for free (warranty).

General Comments:

Concerning comfort, the 2.0 version offers everything I need, airconditioner, leather seats, ABS, etc.

Driving the car is like a dream. In the curves it really sticks to the road, you really feel that it was trimmed by Porsche.

I have had a Ford Probe and a Toyota Celica before, but the Tiburon really is unbeatable on a curvy track.

The 2.0 engine is powerful enough and has good torque from about 1800 rpm which is really good for a sportscar.

You are right, the 2.0L version has awesome power, and handling. I've change the stock tyres to 205/40/17. The handling is tight and awesome. Power output is limited when the aircon is running, however when overtaking at high speed, turn aircon off, for that extra torque.

Summary:

Excellent handling and power for the price

Faults:

The clutch cylinder went out but my dealer covered the cost of the part which was more than the labor, it was a minor repair.

The back hatch still rattles a bit, it's the top plastic cover on the window.

The blinkers still sometimes don't go on until you press the emergency flasher button.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is one of the best cars I have ever owned. Despite the small minor repairs, it has been very inexpensive to drive and reliable to a fault. It is both powerful, well mannered and remarkably nimble for its price range.

I have installed new suspension that has lowered the car 1.25" and now it handles even better.

I haven't driven the new Tiburon, but I definitely like the look of my car better. People still ask me "What kind of car is that, it's beautiful!"

I hope everyone enjoys there's as much.

Faults:

Clutch went bad in one year. The master cylinder in the clutch wasn't holding fluid or something like that. Needed a new transmission after that.. but I think the dealer installed the new clutch wrong which messed up the gearbox somehow. Thank god for the warranty. This is why I am giving it a 5 on reliability and a 5 for dealer service.

General Comments:

I really do love this car. With the exception of my clutch problems, it has been a real joy to drive. It handles really well and even though it isn't as fast as some sport coupes it is very "zippy".

And yes it does make people stare at you.

Hyundai has really improved with new Tiburon 2.0 and V6.I've test driven both, but I still love my ist generation tibby.

1997 Hyundai Tiburon Base 1.8L Gas DOHC from South Korea

Faults:

Found out that the automatic transmission can't handle a 18 year old that adds an extra 60bhp to its already 130. Therefore 2 transmissions in 20,000km. Otherwise drives perfect.

General Comments:

Best looks in its class and many other classes. Fast off the line if you're looking for a standard (8.4 secs 0-60 off Carpoint); the Honda Civic Si is about 0.2 slower. Best of all, an amazing 1/4 mile runner. 1.8L 4-cylinder running a 1/4 0.2 secs faster than the Type-R.

Test drive the 2.0l FX, this one bites, and with ABS braking, this car is awesome.
