2000 Hyundai Tiburon from North America

Summary:

In my opinion, the best car on the planet

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong with my car is the air filter, but that's about it.

General Comments:

This car has very good acceleration and handles great. It's very reliable and looks very nice.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon SE 2.0 from North America

Summary:

All eyes on me

Faults:

Seatbelt doesn't retract properly.

Both my front and rear windshield wipers stopped working all of a sudden. First the front ones, then the back ones. The dealership repaired the problem right away however this occured on a Saturday night when it was pouring rain until the following Monday. The dealership was closed on Sunday. I had to drive like Ace Ventura and stick my head out the window until Monday. I didn't find that very funny.

General Comments:

Other than the problems I love the car. The ladies love it too.

Hello:

I also bought this car new, and love it... Interestingly though, I also have problems with the seatbelts retracting properly. Other than that I have 19,000 miles on it now, and have had no problems.

Aaron.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon Base 2.0 from North America

Summary:

If your looking at a Celica, look here instead!

Faults:

Nothing.......yet. I hope Hyundai truly is building better cars. The price along with the great 10/100 warranty sold me.

General Comments:

Great little car for about 13K, base model includes A/C, power windows and locks, 4 wheel disc brakes, tilt, cruise, 6 speaker stereo, and a kick butt warranty.

Accelerates well, stops well, ride is a bit firm, road noise is a bit much, engine is smooth (not 'Toyota' smooth but pretty good).

Averaging about 30 MPG (90% highway).

Radio could use help (reception 'sucks').

5th gear could be 'taller' for highway cruising (3000RPM @ 65MPH).

Styling is a great, people can't believe this is a Hyundai!

How can you compare this car to a Celica??

24th Aug 2002, 09:03

Suspension is a bit firm? It supposed to be a sports car isn't it?

I just bought a 2000 tiburon and I am loving it. I have the bright green color and this thing gets plenty of second looks. The one thing I want to know is where should I take my car to get touch up paint jobs done for little scratches here and there (ex. under the spoiler) It looks like a rock might have hit and scratched it up. Nothing big, just wondered where I might take it or even order it and touch it up my self. Thanks.

This car can be compared to a celica as in Australia they appeal to the same market. Affordable front wheel drive sporting coupe! By the way guys Hyundai have been excellent with my purchase and service of my Getz. So impressed with everything from their products of the last five or so years and their professionalism, that I stepped into my first foreign car and am not looking back. Better than the very poor Ford experiences of past> No Doubt!!!

2000 Hyundai Tiburon Base 2.0 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Inexpensive Porsche, attention getter!

Faults:

Rattling trunk.

Seatbelt quirk.

Squeaky brakes.

General Comments:

Noisy hatches and a weird seatbelt do not make a bad car, it's reliable and stylish (more looks than my $20,000 Eclipse).

Has some zip, 5th gear is too close in my opinion. Overall it's a good car.

2000 Hyundai Tiburon 2.0 from North America

Summary:

Magnificent car, meager service

Faults:

My new Tiburon began to knock when I accelerated with only 200 miles on it. I took it to the dealer that I bought it from and they said they didn't hear it. The saleswomen I bought it from said they could hear it, so on my open morning I went down and talked to the service manager. He said he hears it, how can you not, but he never repaired one of these vehicles and hasn't even really driven one yet. I went to the Fairfield dealer where I was addressed much nicer but it's been over a week and I still don't have my car.

I'm making payments on a vehicle I don't even own. I drive about 100 miles a day. I work in the morning and have school from approx. 3pm to 10pm in Fremont. The whole reason I bought a car was so I didn't have to worry about it. Now I'm mixed up even worse then with the SAAB I owned. The factory says they won't replace the transmission even though it is clearly the case, and the technicians feel it should be replaced as well. What good is a new car or a warranty of 10 years/100,000 miles if you have to use it the first 200 miles.

General Comments:

I am writing this review of my new car not because I want to descourage other people from buying a Hyundai, but I feel they should be careful where they buy it. Make sure the factory knows how to fix the cars that they sell.

It was a great car before it began to knock. Hopefully, if I ever get it back, I could write a review about the car and not the service. They chose to sell the wrong car to the wrong person. I'm an ASE certified technician who is working to become a Master BMW technician. I have more certs. and qualifications then probably most if not all the mechanics at the factory.

I bought a new 2000 Tiburon. At 4800 miles, the clutch master cylinder failed and a new clutch assembly was installed under warranty. At 7300 miles, 3rd and 4th gear synchros were replaced under warranty. At 14,000 miles, a new transmission was installed, under warranty. At 15,000 miles, I files with BBB Autoline. Hearing was set for next week. Factory contacted me and settled for either - give me all my money back, or give me a "free" 2001 Tiburon. I am currently deciding what option to take. I think I just got a lemon.
