1986 Isuzu Pickup 1.9 gas engine from North America

Summary:

Great little truck!

Faults:

Alternator went out.

Battery died.

Headlights burned out.

Thermostat died.

Radiator hose rotted out.

General Comments:

This is an awesome little truck!

It runs and runs and runs!

I've only had to do basic maintenance on it, and replace a worn out hose and a bad thermostat.

The alternator killed a battery and the headlights. It finally went out in the middle of nowhere, and I was still able to drive the truck another 300 miles to my destination!

I get close to 30 mpg with the canopy on, which is unheard for a truck.

It's pretty slow (1.9L engine, what do you expect?) but it can haul/tow anything.

The cabin is pretty basic, and kind of noisy at high speeds, but since this is a no-frills truck I'm not surprised.

The only downside is that getting parts is kind of hard. I had to go to 5 parts stores before I could find an alternator, and I was unable to find a radiator hose with the right bends in it so I had to patch the old one.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Drove my 86 Izuzu gas engine model to 307.000 miles. Best little truck I ever owned.

I purchased a 1986 pup and went 307.000 miles to with very little maintenance. Never replaced the clutch. That truck to this day is not forgotten in our family. I believe totally in Japanese tech. Now I own a Toyota Tacoma with a 4 cylinder, racking up the miles no problem. No more big 3 (Ford, GM or Chrysler) - heart breaking problems, never again. Buy Japanese.
