1993 Isuzu Pickup Space Cab 2.5 diesel from Cyprus

Summary:

The toughest pickup truck ever. It'll be with me for many more years to come

Faults:

Overheating is common, especially in hot climates. This leads to coolant leaks and radiator blockages.

Oil pressure failures that cause damage to the camshaft and upper engine components.

The injectors emit excessive smoke and cause noise, although not annoying.

Frequent oil consumption and leaks.

Minor faults in the alternator and voltage regulator.

Corrosion in the structure is critical, with mud entering and damage to the fenders.

General Comments:

We bought this pickup truck as a family specifically for work (we have a small family business). At the time of purchase, it already had quite a few kilometers on it, although perhaps not as many as you'd expect from a vehicle of this type, but well, over 70,000 kilometers at the time of purchase isn't insignificant.

It wasn't in perfect condition; it was already somewhat rusty and had some minor imperfections inside. Even so, it was fine for the type of use it was going to be given.

The truth is, I didn't think this vehicle would be so tough. I already knew about the reliability of Japanese cars, but this little pickup exceeded my expectations. Years of hard work, under the blazing sun, in unbearable heat, and apart from the minor issues I mentioned above, it didn't give me any serious mechanical problems. It's not fast, but that's not important either. It's a work vehicle that might also be used for a leisurely drive, but it certainly isn't trying to be a sports car or anything like that.

The Isuzu 2.5 engine is a rock; it's approaching 400,000 km and runs exactly the same as when I bought it. Furthermore, fuel consumption isn't high considering it has an automatic transmission. It's the ideal vehicle for work and long journeys; the engine won't even notice, I assure you.

It doesn't have too many accessories, no electric windows or any of those bells and whistles, but most importantly, it does come with air conditioning (which works perfectly), enough to beat the intense Cypriot heat.

Considering how cars are made today and their poor reliability, I plan to keep my Isuzu for many more years.

Great review.

The Isuzu diesel engines of the 90s were excellent quality. I remember several Opels having Isuzu engines, like the Kadett and the Ascona. I bring it up now because I owned a Kadett with an Isuzu engine, and with almost half a million kilometers on it, the engine only needed diesel.

These pickups were also sold under the Opel or Chevrolet brand, depending on the country and market. A hard work machine.

1993 Isuzu Pickup Spacecab! 2.6L I4, fuel injection from North America

Summary:

I have owned 9 vehicles over the years and this is by far the most dependable and reliable.

Faults:

I'm on my 3rd fuel pump. I believe that the first pump went bad due to the fact that the truck had ~160,000 miles on it and the pump finally wore out. Second fuel pump was installed by an idiot who screwed the install up. Third pump is operating just fine.

Have replaced the factory starter and radiator recently at ~180,000 miles.

The front end (steering and suspension components) could use some attention.

Overall, has been a very reliable and dependable pickup despite the fact that I never seem to perform maintenance on time.

General Comments:

A great, dependable, affordable truck that I will continue to drive until the wheels fall off.

Do you know how a 1994 Isuzu transmission is cooled? The stick shift 5 speed.

It's not cooled. If it's a 5 speed, it does not have a cooler.

1993 Isuzu Pickup 2.3L Carburetor from North America

Summary:

This pickup truck is fantastic!

Faults:

I have a wrist pin in the motor that has gone bad.

When I first bought the truck it would stall out or hesitate when you stopped. I replaced the very clogged fuel filter & added moisture removal agent to the fuel. Also sprayed the carburetor with carburetor cleaner.

Had to replace the oxygen sensor at 180,000 miles.

General Comments:

I love this little pickup. It has 193,000 miles on it & I still drive it every day.

The truck is still fuel efficient & drives very well.
