Summary:

I love this car

Faults:

The water pump and timing belt went out at 210.

Transmission seal went out 3 times.

Torque converter was bad when bought the people who fixed it didn't bold it correctly and it cracked in half.

Head had two cracks in it cost 1000 to fix.

Now the thermal valve broke so it runs kind of bad.

It started a mysterious oil leak by oil filter just this last week my mechanic said oil filter gasket was bad I bought a new one it cut leak in half, but not fixed it turned out to be the oil pressure switch right next to it.

My CV joint was destroyed by a rock because I was stupid and drove it off roading w/o a cv boot.

General Comments:

I absolutely LOVE this car even with all of its little problems I think I will never get rid of it.

Heck it has 236k miles on it, but it rides well and is extremely good off-roading heck I pulled out a few of my friends out of mud that I made it through. it take big hills like its nothing. All of my friends love it they wanted to one for themselves. This body style is the best ever. The interior is roomy and seats are comfortable. the only problem I have with it is the expensive part.

Summary:

Super reliable and reasonable transportation

Faults:

Had to replace the original muffler at 100,000 miles, and replace the master slave cylinder due to rubber grommet wearing out around the same time. Interior in very good shape, only one small crack on the left side of the driver's seat. Clean as a pin. Runs well, gets around 18 MPG. Starts every time, great on the road, hauls tons, reliable, clean, inexpensive transportation. Cleans up real well, all shiny. Easy on tires too. I change oil regularly, and maintain it, for I plan to own it for years. I paid $2,000 for it in September, 2004.

I have had a 1991 Trooper II for 5 years now.

Great vehicle, I was lucky enough to find one with a perfect body and interior. I have replaced all brakes, radiator, tranny/transfer case, exhaust and now the A/C compressor. It is essentially a brand new vehicle. I maintain my vehicles meticulously.

The one thing I have discovered is the 2.8 V6 is incredibly inefficient and gets very poor fuel economy with very low HP. I am considering changing to the replacement 3.4 litre V6. I wouldn't consider doing this if the vehicle wasn't in such great condition and so much fun to drive.

Summary:

A cheap Tank

Faults:

Power steering seal went shortly after purchase.

Clutch went just after 100000 miles.

Fuel injector ditto.

General Comments:

Me and a friend bought this car in LA because it was the cheapest 4x4 we could find $1800! We then drove it 6000 miles in two months to Costa Rica.

It performed amazingly through 100 degree deserts, up muddy mountains and through rivers.

The clutch finally went, but after 100,000 miles, not bad I suppose.

Summary:

Old Reliable

Faults:

Very bad gas mileage. I think the throttle body is just about shot.

Radiator is leaking.

Oil leak somewhere around engine.

Steering is a little loose.

A/c needs a little repair.

EGR valve went bad.

Exhaust leak around exhaust manifold.

Passenger side headlight keeps blowing up (literally).

General Comments:

Overall, this is a very dependable vehicle. It cranks every time, and has plenty of room. The 2.8 liter is really embarrassing in the area of get up and go. Really embarrassing. But the 4 wheel drive is unbelievable.

This truck is a keeper. I'll fix the throttle body in order to get better gas mileage, and do some mending on the interior. It just keeps going without a complaint.
