Fractured oil cooler (£300).
Radiator blocked (£400).
V12 has a tendancy to run hot so I am told but not a problem for me now with new radiator.
Unleaded + twin cats. Not as thirsty as one might think. I average 17.5 mpg on a tankful and 20-21 on a run.
Have just obtained ridiculously cheap insurance (£237 fully comp) via Jaguar Drivers Club.
The buzz from this car is worth every penny it costs to run.
Noted, however even after tuning my XJS V12 I never managed more than 15 mpg, which is ridiculous.
Greetings.
I recently purchased a 1984 Jaguar XJS H.E. for $1,500.US, here in California. Aside from a few cosmetic issues, the car is in very solid mechanical condition and drives quite well. I have scheduled a complete service for this week. There is a very subtle miss at idle and I suspect that it is the ignition amplifier (original Lucas) from what I have read on the subject. The car, so far, is a real dream. I don't imagine that there is a much better bargain in a true super car to be found. I will admit, however, that the topside of the engine is a daunting mess of equipment. Just getting at the spark plugs looks like an ugly couple of hours. Regardless, I'm up for the challenge and, best of all, my wife loves it as well. Cheers to all!
Josh.
