Have a 2001 Cherokee Sport @ 93,000 miles. Used to have ignition problems until they replaced the "steering column"... never had that problem again.

Now my air conditioner goes in and out. Been to the dealer service 3 times and it works everytime I go in, so they can't find the problem. My sister's Jeep Cherokee had air conditioning problems as well, but she traded it in. Anyone else have air conditioning going in and out?

I also have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport with the vibration at 50 to 60 mph. Vibration stops once I get to 60mph. Did replacing the steering stabilizer work for anyone?

I have a 2000 Cherokee Sport with 112,000 miles. I've had good luck with it, but a few of the problems I've read about here have also gotten me. 1) My ignition wouldn't turn at about 95k, and a locksmith had to redo the whole thingamajig for a couple hundred bucks. 2) My AC compressor seized up at about 102k, causing my brand new serpentine belt to wear down and have to be replaced again.

Sorry I haven't had the vibration problems you all are having, but I've been having lots of squeaking for years when braking and going over bumps at slow speeds. Have had brakes & bushings replaced zillions of times and brand new shocks... squeaking still there. Squeaking is in the key of high 'A'.

I've had my 2000 Cherokee Sport (Canada) since the fall of 2000. I've had many problems and every time I brought it in under warranty I was given attitude from the dealership. It's at 156K (kms) and this is my 3rd set of rotors (2 sets under warranty, 1 out of pocket), AC pump replaced (under warranty), driver side window button relays replaced (u.w.), right passenger door speaker replaced (u. w.), dampers for hatch replaced (u. w.), and a bunch of other things. Will not buy a Chrysler or North American made car again.

Hello everyone.

I just bought a 2000 Cherokee Sport with 90000 miles.

I have had it almost a week now, and took it on a little tour this weekend. I haven't noticed any shimmy, and the steering drives quite straight. Comfortable at speed. Actually pretty pleased so far.

The brakes were shot, and the dealer said they would fix them this week. The A/C is not working, which they said they would "look at".

My only other problem is the rear latch, which won't always open when unlocked, sometimes I have to fiddle with the key in and pull the handle at the same time to open the rear hatch... anyone experience this?

As for fixing the A/C, has anyone tried to fix leaks by themselves before? I have always done my own work, but I have never done anything to A/C before.

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. 66,000 miles and no ignition problems and no shaky front end problems. I have been through two sets of brake pads and one set of tires now, but no real show stopping issues. The AC has just failed and the diagnosis is a bad evaporator. Another owner stated the exact same thing at the exact same mileage on the exact same make, model and year (including the exact same -have to take the dash apart to fix- explanation from the dealership). The only difference is I was quoted a price of 1500 dollars to fix. The other owner was quoted 850 some odd dollars.

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have had the front end shake problem for several months.

First I was told the rotors were warped. I replaced the rotors and noticed some improvement, but the shake would resurface anytime a slight bump was hit at about 45-50 mph. The shake was so bad, I had to slow down to about 25 mph before it would go away.

After reading some of the other comments on this forum, I replaced the steering stabilizer (damper) yesterday and - viola! - the shake is gone!

Thanks to everyone here for pointing me in the right direction. I got the stabilizer at Pep Boys for about $35.00 and I had to buy a 15mm socket (1/2" drive) to get the job done, but it was a quick 1 hour repair. I found a great parts diagram over at cyberjeep:

http://www.cyberjeep.com/products.asp?dept=5608

The part number of the mfg part number for the damper is 52088251 - this was referenced on the Pep Boys screen information. Thanks again to all here!!!

The ignition and the key won't turn problem in the Jeep Cherokee 2000 seems to be prevalent. I hope there is a recall soon because it's one thing to have a "wear and tear" problem for brakes/steering/vibrations etc... but it sucks to be stuck 100 miles away from home and you can't even turn the key in the ignition to put the Jeep in neutral so that it can be towed. Now I've got my ignition cylinder to be replaced and who knows what else.

I have a 2000 xj sport with 76,000 miles on it. I have had it for 2 years. it is modified with a 5 inch lift, new shocks, steering stabilizer, lockers front and rear, sye kit, a bunch of other stuff. I haven't had any problems except the check engine light will come on after I wheel. I diagnosed it as a misfire in the cylinders. plugs are good, air filter is good. haven't checked the filter b/c it's inside the tank. I use crap fuel (ampm) I'm sure once I clean the injectors, that will fix it. it is my daily driver and I couldn't be happier. I spend a lot of time working on my own jeep. a lot of the stuff you can do yourself. go get a service manual and start wrenching, don't let a dealership jack you around.

I have a 2001 Cherokee Sport and I've had the same problems with the ignition and AC. Actually, these both happened within the same couple months (@ 76,000mi). I actually just came on here to figure out what to do about my Jeep that I can't turn the key. Misery has company!

Well I guess it is true, misery loves company. I have a 2000 Cherokee that is sitting immoblie in front of my garage with the same ignition key problem. This happened once before, about a year ago, and I was able to get it going by putting some WD40 on the key and working at it with a pair of pliers (my hand got tired). Anyway, I tried the same thing tonight, but to no avail. What needs to happen to bring about a recall???

Just had the stock shocks and steering stabilizer replaced on my 2001 XJ and now I have the 50 - 52 MPH shake. It didn't shake before with the stock components. It must be the stabilizer or shocks! It seems that a frequency must manifest it self at certain speeds. I had a new set of slightly oversized tires mounted last year and I never got the shake then. The difference in tire sizes are probably responsible for the different speeds at which the vibration happens to everyone. I will be taking my XJ back in to have that stabilizer and shocks replaced again with more heavy duty ones.

I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport (4.0L) w/Selec-Trac (bought brand new).

I noticed the shaking and vibrating when approaching speeds from 48-55 as well (mostly when on the freeway). I thought it was normal (because I never owned a Jeep before), until a friend rode with me and told me that it was not normal.

I had the rotors replaced and that seemed to fix the problem. After about a year or two the shaking came back.

The tires squeal every time I turn a corner, no matter how fast or slow I am driving. I have had the pressure and tires checked and the dealer kept telling me the tires were fine.

I also had problems with the passenger side automatic window. After year two it quit working. It is only the passenger side that will not work. If I am driving, I can control it under the master control. If my husband drives and I want to raise or lower the window (and the lock is off), it will not budge. I had the dealer fix it. They told me there was a short in the door. The passenger side worked for a week. It is still hit or miss when trying to raise or lower it down.

I am in year six with this truck and so far I have not had any major problems… I am interested in buying a new Jeep, so I cannot say this experience was that terrible. I would comment on the shady dealership, but I will go to another forum for that.

To everyone with the shake... ever occur that it could be the front tires are not weighed properly? in our Neons when the weights are off just ever so slighty (or just fall off or there were 2 many put on) the front end shakes at certain speeds... its because the tires are not weighed properly...

To the person with the tire squeal no matter how fast you're going... do you happen to have Uniroyals on? cause my friends S-10 does the same thing no matter how fast shes going (they did it going 5MPH is a parking lot) and its because they have the Uniroyals...
