2001 Kia Sedona EX from North America

Summary:

For the money and options no van can beat it

Faults:

1. Fuel Gage doesn't read full. Must top off fuel to ever get gage to read Full.

2. Spring clips on head rests pop off and won't fit back in place.

3. Fuse Panel cover falls off.

4. Knob on Rear Air fell of (was fixed by dealer).

5. Rear Hatch must be slammed to close.

6. Van has sputtered and died a few times after initial start up. Choke seems to stick or there is a problem with the computer/sensor. Dealer says nothing is wrong. Again, DEALER SAYS.

7. Sun shield light/mirror for passenger broke.

8. Windshield has been replaced twice and has a new crack in it. KY State insurance replaces for free thank God!

9. Minor specks of rust have formed. About the size of Pencil lead. Around windows.

General Comments:

The above items are pretty insignificant in my opinion. Yes, had I spent more on a Toyota I would be ticked. These items are purely cosmetic and can be replaced at little cost.

I like the engine. It runs well and we have been on several trips since we purchased this van. We were hesitant since this van was the "first" van made by KIA. The interest rate of 1.9 and 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty was tough to pass up. It's the 2002 model even though we purchased it in Oct. of 2001. We really like it and recommend it.

2001 Kia Sedona LX from North America

Summary:

We love the government crash test results, the van rides well and for the money, it's a deal.

Faults:

Air conditioner noise, fixed without problem. Sliding door stuck, fixed without problem. Stress fracture in windshield, so far Kia refuses to fix this.

General Comments:

Other than the fact that our windshield has started cracking from below the seal, just left of the center, this is a good van for the price. Until Central Kia in Plano started sharing the Irving dealerships service manager, the service has been excellent, but now I'm not at all impressed. I will judge if I will purchase another Kia based on whether they take care of this issue or not. Unfortunately I've already referred about 15 people to them.

May I ask what dealership or other company fixed the noisy air conditioner problem with the KIA Sedona? My dealership is having trouble locating the problem. I have a sporadic humming noise that sometimes changes in pitch. The humming seems to only occur when the front A/C is on and the back is off. Of course, the car never makes the noise when I take it in. It's frustrating that they cannot fix the problem. If you know what was fixed, please let me know. Thanks.

2001 Kia Sedona LX from North America

Summary:

Sedona 2002 windshield problem

Faults:

The only problem is the windshield.

General Comments:

Had the car about 18 months, the third (yes third!) windshield cracked last month (16 Mar 03). Been chatting with KIA about fixing it since then. Apparently, they are NOT going to do anything about it.

Windshield Recap:

September 01 (late) bought Sedona

October 01 (mid) windshield cracked

December 01 (late) windshield replaced

February 02 (mid) windshield cracked

April 02 (mid) windshield replaced

March 03 (mid) windshield cracked

In all cases the windshield crack originated near (within two inches of) the rubber windshield seal.

I have two other Kias, (Sephia, Spectra) that have not had any windshield cracks.

2001 Kia Sedona ex 3.5 from North America

Summary:

Best value for the money

Faults:

Initial inspection:

Power lumber support on driver's seat not working.

Loose wood grain trim on dash.

Compact disk bin door latch not functioning.

Fuel efficiency is not good!

A few small error on the company web site and owners manual have been noted.

General Comments:

Initial impression on first 2000 kilometers:

The Sedona is exceptionally smooth and quiet, it has plenty of power and handles reasonably well although does experience a bit of body roll in harder cornering.

The air conditioning is powerful, but remains quiet. Sun roof is a pleasure.

The seats are very comfortable and the separate reclining rear bench seat was appreciated (this vehicle is equipped with a leather package).

No rattles or squeaks could be detected.

Other than fuel efficiency this vehicle is very impressive especially when comparing its price to the competition. So far I am very satisfied.

Long term reliability, dealer and factory support and resale value are unknown.

Overall I am looking forward to a very pleasant ownership experience.
