2000 Kia Spectra from North America

Summary:

A GEM!!!

Faults:

I have a 2000 Kia Spectra. I got it with 14 miles out of the dealer.

I have kept up with oil changes, belts, tune-ups, and everything any car needs to be maintained.

Just like every other car, I replaced the timing belt at just over 100k miles before it went out... this has to be done to every car model and make.

My Spectra, along with my brother's Sephia from the same year is a GEM. This car is still as smooth as the day I drove it out of the dealership. I have thought about getting a Nissan or Honda, but then again, why, I drive 45 minutes to work each way, and my KIA is smooth even when I hit 80...

Take care of your car, and it will last..

2000 Kia Spectra GSX 1.8L from North America

Summary:

Amazing

General Comments:

The car is as reliable as any.

It drives well, and floats on bumps.

It has a strong motor and performs well for a compact car.

Very good buy.

Would recommend the car to any one.

Those who believe Kia are trash are wrong. I have owned a lot of manufacturers, mainly Asian, and it is just as good as Toyota and Honda.

2000 Kia Spectra GS 1.8 from North America

Summary:

A truly pleasant surprise for its price

Faults:

The catalytic converter was replaced under warranty.

The remote trunk release broke, but was fixed by the dealer. Sometimes it does not work though.

Driver's seat badly worn through on one side.

General Comments:

This car has been quite good in a number of ways, including the following:

It has been extremely reliable. I have almost 90,000 miles on it in 5 years and it just keeps going and going without a glitch.

Performance is very good in second and third gears and the car basically is fun to drive. Power steering feel is just right.

The fold-down rear seat and hatch are a great feature; I can slide in my bike length-wise.

Outstanding gas mileage... consistently 35+ mpg on long highway trips.

The stuff I'm not thrilled with is:

Sometimes I can't get the shifter into reverse easily.

Driver's door doesn't stay open.

Slightly limited rear visibility from the high rear window.

2000 Kia Spectra GSX from North America

Summary:

Death trap

Faults:

I have had a lot go wrong with my KIA.

The day my mom drove it off of the lot, she got stranded on the side of the road because it had a bubble in it's tank.

The lights went out shortly after. My emergency lights still do not work. My airbag does not work. The engine light comes on and off all the time. This is my fourth transmission. And my air conditioning does not work?

I would not recommend this car at all. You can get an Echo for less money, and they are far more reliable.

This car is a glorified go-cart. Except the go cart would probably be more reliable.

4th Transmission? Sounds like you're a glutton for punishment, and I was upset when at 120K miles I had to put a second in my 1990 Ford Aerostar. Point being, with the first incident (gas tank issue), you should have exchanged cars, at least in Ohio (under Lemon Law) you could have.

2000 Kia Spectra GSX from North America

Summary:

Garbage Garbage and more Garbage

Faults:

The first things that I noticed off the bat was that it fogged really bad on the inside, In the winter it's dangerous, you need an ice scraper on the inside to scrape the windows off, even if the heat is on full blast.

The back hatch will not stay up and has not worked right since we first got it.

The back hatch is also not sealed correctly and you freeze in the back seat.

All the plastic trim all the way around the car has either come all the way off or is in the process.

The door seals are all coming off and the doors won't shut properly unless you fight with the seals and pull them back.

Center storage latch broke right away.

The car beeps and makes weird sounds upon starting sometimes.

Will not start in cold weather and I live in Montana, That's a MUST.

Door's freeze shut in the winter.

There's really no in-between, the car inside is usually way too hot or way too cold.

General Comments:

In my opinion this car is a piece of garbage!

I can't really say one good thing about this car, except I would really like my money back, which is never going to happen.

I paid 16k for this car in Washington and bought the second one in Kitsap county.

I feel ripped off and will never buy another KIA.

I wish KIA would rectify all the problems I've had with the car.
