Problems with carburetor and many other that I'm planing to resolve next year!
Main problem is the corrosive floor under the right front seat.
Heather is noisy and difficult to close 100% in summer time.
The best car I've could buy for 250$
It's easy to repaire it by yourself.
Easy to find every needed part (in Russia)
Have a good performance.
Yes, indeed, Lada is great
I am from Romania and I have a lada 1200 from 1980
it is great: strong, powerful (for the period in which it was built it's very well), very resistant at corrosion, great gear-box, great power in the mountains, very strong on bumpy roads (in Romania we have only bumpy roads lol)
last summer I went on a tour around Romania and I had no problems whatsoever. Next year I am planning to go on a trip in Europe, and I am sure I will have no problems!
I think lada is woth each and every penny
bye and good luck to everybody.
I myself own a Lada 2101 from 1979.. And I can tell, that it's a very good car.. My favourite of russian cars.
The Fiats on which these Ladas were based weren't considered to be particularly good cars ... and that was in the mid 1960's.
The early Ladas were certainly based on Fiat design. However, to directly compare the two marques, is not strictly accurate. The Lada was manufactured in Russia, at the giant Togliatti plant, and the Fiat design was changed and adapted to cope with Russia`s unique environmental conditions, such as harsh terrain, climatic extremes etc. The result was a strong and extremely durable car which was able to cope most adequately with these conditions. As an example, compare the thickness of the steel panels in the bodywork of the two cars. The Lada`s panels are far thicker and more robust. The downside, however, is the extra weight in the car, and consequently, slower performance as compared to the Fiat.
I own a Lada 2101, 1200cc, 1981, it is a very strong car, comfortable and roominess, I drive it all days in Peru, on bad ways and I want to get another car like this one. I also have an Honda civic, 1987, but I do not feel as safe as I feel with the Lada (to change a tire, I can see the torsional deformation in Honda, with the Lada none). If I have to choose between many cars for a difficult trip, Lada is my choice.
Ladas are practical, honest and extremely durable. I have owned Ladas for many years, and have not experienced any major problems - they just go forever!
Just do what we do in america and swap in a chevy 350 v8 if you really want "to have a good performance"
Why not drop a small G.M. based V8 into the new Chevy Niva in Russia? Now that would be a fast 4X4! Russian vehicles tend to be somewhat underpowered - they confine themselves to small capacity 4 cylinder motors - perhaps they are more concerned about fuel economy than we are. Don`t know why though - when the Russian nation is the second highest oil producer in the world and has vast reserves in places like Siberia - many of which are yet untapped!
I also own Lada 2101 `75. It's great; what can I say?
The engine is great, it has great performance, but starting it for the first time is difficult. I don`t know what the problem is.
I had a little accident last week; it was raining and in the corner the car started to slide.
Anyway, it`s great car to drive.
Just to clarify on one of the comments. The Fiat 124, on which the Lada 2101 is based, was chosen Car of the Year in Europe when it first came out.
