1987 Lancia Prisma 1.6 injection from Finland

Summary:

A real driver's machine!

Faults:

Rear brakes: New discs and pads, and new gaskets on the calipers at 231000km.

Both outer CV-joints replaced at 231000km.

New handbrake cable.

All doors were welded with new self-made parts (new parts were not available.)

Some rust-fixes on body, but surprisingly few considering it had been on Finnish salted roads for 14 years.

New light switch.

Electric window switches needed cleaning.

Front wheel bearings replaced at 259000km.

Front brake disks and pads replaced at 259000km.

Fuel pump (Bosch!) replaced at 235000km.

Front stabilizer bar bushes replaced at 239000km.

Water pump replaced at 240000km.

General Comments:

This car has been very heavily abused by its previous owners, so there were some damages on oil- and floorpans, which I had to fix when I got the car.

Lancias have much worse reputation than they deserve, so it's possible to find one for almost nothing. A drawback is, that since they are cheap, they're often very badly maintained, and good performance gets some of them abused.

Front seats would be comfortable, if I had shorter legs (I'm 178cm tall), these cars are still built for the "Italian ape," though once I get used to the driving position, it's quite comfortable.

The handling is better than any stock car I've ever driven, and performance beats even many newer cars easily, still the economy is surprisingly good.

Build quality is not too good, and some parts can be a pain to find, but for me it's still acceptable for this kind of performance and individuality. This has been the only FWD-car I've really liked to drive - Lancia has shown it's possible to make a FWD car for enthusiastic drivers!

If you're looking for something with great performance and handling, and are not afraid of doing some small repairs, look for a Prisma 1.6 or 2.0 - and if you can find one without serious rust problems, get it at once!

1986 Lancia Prisma 1.6 twin cam from Sweden

Summary:

If you find one without rust - buy it!

Faults:

Rear discs rusty, were renewed.

Hand brake cable had to be renewed.

Had to disable the seat heating because it was eating fuses.

Rust in the body, unfortunately.

General Comments:

A very nice car of Giugaro design.

Good engine with good performance.

Very good handling.

Excellent on road, quick steering.

Quite comfortable.

I really liked this car, one of the best I ever had.

I sold it because it was rusting a little too much, a common problem in the Swedish climate and salted roads in the winter.

1989 Lancia Prisma 1.3 petrol 75HP from Italy

Faults:

Ventilation system, starter, hand brake.

General Comments:

Great car for the cost, excellent handling IMO, great for leaving better, newer and more expensive cars behind you.

My dream : Prisma Integrale 2.0 4WD

I have a Lancia Prisma 2.0 4WD. Great car. Very fast, very agile, good acceleration, robust. But not built for romanian roads.

1988 Lancia Prisma LX 1.6 petrol injection from UK and Ireland

Faults:

I lost 3rd gear (apparently common on these).. errr just little things really, new distributor, starter motor, dodgy electrics, welding for MOT. But I've sacrificed solid build quality for great fun!

General Comments:

Ace car, i'ts the same as the Delta GTie.

Running costs can be horrendous, but for the low price you get a lot of car. The handling is better than any rival in the class, and the twin cam motor is more than capable of seeing off XR3i`s and the like. I`m hoping to go for an HF turbo, or maybe even an Integrale soon. I'll let you know what it's like!

I have a brand new Lancia Prisma 1500cc 2nd hand 1988 model. This is a great car, and I enjoy it a lot.

I have a 1.6 turbo engine with 160hp, and only at 0.5 bar.

The car is perfect, and can be very fun to drive in.
