1979 Land Rover 88 review from UK and Ireland
"Original and still the best"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The rear quarter chassis required replacement as it was badly corroded and I almost snapped the rear cross member.
I replaced the springs and shocks, but worn through age not actually faulty.
A month after picking up the landrover I did a full service following an intensive off road session and was somewhat dismayed to find that the gear box was devoid of oil. Incedently one year and 8000 miles later I'm still using the same gearbox and yes its noisy.
General comments?
Other than periodic niggles all of them age related particularly as the previous owner neglected to perform even basic maintenance. A truly reliable vehicle no matter what the weather she can be relied upon to start first time, only letting me down once and given the amount of clay in the distributor I'm willing to forgive that.
