2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport TD4 SE Tech 4WD 2.0 diesel from UK and Ireland
Summary:
Avoid
Faults:
Clutch judder.
DPF light on.
Oil leak.
And now the car wont start. Timing chain possibly broken/stretched.
All this in only two years / 12,500 miles.
General Comments:
Discovery Sport - It's a "premium" 4 wheel drive, that's punchy, powerful, very comfortable inside and pulls whatever trailer I need it to.
Looks good as well, very modern for a 2016 vehicle. Looks like anything made recently.
But reliability has been the biggest issue. I believe I have the "ingenium" engine and have been advised the starting problem could be something very serious (and not just the battery!) and I am looking at a costly repair bill! This car has low mileage and was looked after well according to its history. But I think the engine has had it.
I should have kept my old Toyota, but it was over 20 years old so I had to get a newer car for work. But Land Rover are not what they used to be! Do your research before you buy. I should have done a bit more. But I thought I was buying a premium vehicle at the price!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

The comment is offensive to LR owners.
Serious problems show after some years and several mielage.
It’s not a bad car form factor!

48,500 miles is nothing! I have a Ford Explorer made in 2017, similar age to this Land Rover, with 67,000 miles and it has always been reliable. If I had a vehicle with only 48,000 miles with serious, expensive engine problems, as the reviewer states, I believe I would apply the word “junk” to that particular vehicle. It sounds like a Ford Explorer is a better vehicle than a Land Rover that cost 3 times as much. If I were a Land Rover owner, that’s what I would find truly offensive.

Ingenium engine problems are widely known across the Jaguar / Land Rover community. Just search YouTube and other places.
