1994 Lincoln Mark VIII mark 8 from North America - Comments

"A great American made road car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My doors freeze shut on moist winter days. Have needed to replace both door locks. Right passenger window switch won't go up.

General comments?

I love this cars performance on the highway. It is quick and gets great gas mileage. It has been very reliable so far. The seats are comfy and the interior is stylish.

I live in Nashville and up to now I have enjoyed the 94mark only because a wall jumped out in front of me I no longer ride with a smile... However the power of a car this size with just a 4.6QUADcamV8 is a thing to behold. The Trace is not to far from my house and I have many a Sunday afternoon spent well in the mark. I like to ride with the air-ride off I seem to feel the road a little better like that. The mark is not only an all-round best buy for a ford man, but a sure safe bet should you have a problem... WITH WALLS I MEAN... overall from a man who has had 16 cars&trucks &24 wrecks.. I GIVE IT A -8.5- a few points off because I had to spend 2grand on air ride so it would not drag the ground and the back brake lights kept going out. This stuff is to be expected however when one buys an 8to10 yr old car!! I miss it very much -- be SAFE and enjoy/THE BANDIT.

I thought I was reading my own review! I have had to replace two locks from freezing shut, and my passenger window lift switch won't go up. I bought mine in 2000 with 49,000 miles, and it now has 65,000 in 2004. This is such a great car, but I worry about the air suspension going out. The multi-valve motor seams bullet proof and gets 28-30 mpg on the interstate! This cars looks great inside and out and has done nothing to change my "FORD GUY" status.

I bought my '94 in 2000 w/94000 miles. my doors also freeze. i also spent $2000 on a new suspension. I love this car on the highway! great gas mileage, and performance! in town, not so good. maybe because the performance is awesome, especially when I raced a z-28 the other night, and won!! not bad for a car that now has 162,000 miles! stan, fort wayne in.

I have a 94 mark 8 which just rolled over to 150k miles on it. My passenger side window switch will not go down, but it will go up. Also my driver side out side door handle the front hinge broke so it's just flopping until I can fix it. At about 148K miles my driver side motor mount let go, but I guess that is from me blasting it down the drag strip my best time so far is 9.6sek @76mph in the 1/8th mile. All I have done to it is I took the stock exhaust off behind the factory Y pipe and put a cheep Dynaflow muffler and a turn down on it. a full flowmaster dual exhaust will go on later this summer! The fastest car I have raced so far that I have beaten is a 99 Eclipse with a 125 shot of nitrous on it and he got spanked!!

I bought a 95 mark 8 at auction with 153,000 miles on it and one trans later no one can touch me with it. OK I've been beatin' once by a 78 monte with a 383 and nos, but come on for a bone stock car to still be that fast wow!!!

The cops even think so, with every ticket get. I can't wait to get a supercharger on it and take it to the track.

My Mark VIII has been great! Bought it 6 years ago with 70k miles, now has about 145k. About the air suspension, I replaced 1 corner, and then later another started going bad. Didn't want to pay for another. I found a company with after market springs and struts, thought I'd try them. I think all 4 wheels were about $500 for parts. Paid about $200 for installation (I have a great inexpensive mechanic). It still rides and handles great after about 50k miles. The power from the V-8 with great mileage is a real head scratcher, but I love it. Every owner I've talked to loves their Mark VIII.

I recently purchased a 1993 Mark VIII. It had two previous owners. The car has a excellent ride, however the suspension has a problem and the rear end is about 5 inches above the rear wheels. The dealer can't find the problem. What can I do? Should I go for the conversion kit? Please respond to Xavier at - realrich23@yahoo.com.

As far as the door sticking shut in winter... it has to do with the design of the rubber door seals. Give them light silicone treatments every so often and the doors shouldn't stick. Otherwise, if the top of the car isn't iced over, use your fingers to help "pry" the door open along the top edge while pulling up on the door handle. Gave me all the extra leverage I needed... the door handles are notorious for breaking when subjected to heavy-duty force!

I bought my mark 8 (96) in 07 with 150k. Since then my shock went out, I bought regular springs instead of replacing the air ride $400 - Strutmasters - ebay :) 200 for installation, but now my door handle broke off BOTH sides, a few wiring problems, A/C related (no A/C now).

But the car rides smooth, has a lot of power, haven't really raced anybody yet though, but waiting for the challenge!
