2018 Mazda 6 GT Sport Nav + 2.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

2.5 petrol - realistic 40 MPG. Great build for the price

Faults:

Sat nav occasionally flickers.

General Comments:

Why is it so cheap? You get a superb level of spec and excellent build quality, all for £32k!

Things I like:

More stylish than most other similarly sized cars; inspiring design all round.

Good performance and genuinely excellent MPG from the 2.5 petrol - averaging 39 MPG.

Nappa leather with effective cooled seats.

Lovely build quality overall - soft knee pads and lots of stitched leather. Better build than the Mercedes C-Class by far.

Reliability so far.

Interior ambience - LED lighting. Puddle lightning, real wood trim, suede trims. How can they do it for the price?

Headlights - LED with swivel feature.

Good gearbox and an engine that is always bang up for it.

Key looks ultra cool.

Low road noise.

Things I am not as keen on:

Alarm is ultra quiet - hardly a thief deterrent.

You cannot open windows or sunroof from the key.

My old Lexus had a DVD function too - great for being stuck in traffic or ferry crossings etc. This doesn’t.

Engine a little coarse when cold - soon warms up though.

Drivetrain not as smooth as Lexus; a little jolty at times.

Looks like it sits a little high up with narrow wheels - slight adjustment here would improve the already attractive design further.

Handling a little overrated - it’s rock solid, but the chassis and steering are not as fun as reviews make out.

Sat nav and infotainment weak compared to my Audi, but easier than Lexus.

A lot of the above I am comparing to the Lexus (and other prestige brands) which cost an extra £7k new! So really, I am probably being unfair with some of these negative comments.

A great car overall.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Nice review, keep us up to date! Hopefully this new Mazda will fair better than my old 2007 diesel one that fell apart at only 5 years old. Been put off Mazdas since, but the new model is gorgeous looking and I might have a look at them again if long term reliability is good!
