My transmission went bad when it's only 105000 miles.
Very frustrated.
I own a 1995 Mazda 626 that also started having transmission problems at 255,000 kilometers. The OD light also started flashing and caused the transmission to kick back very hard and lose the proper gear it should be in. Everyone told me that my transmission was gone. I took it to the shop and the problem is, is that because the transmission is Ford and not Mazda, the detection equipment won't be able to read the computer properly. I took it too a specialty shop and told it was only the sensor which told the car when to switch gears. My bill was only $213, rather than $1500 for a rebuilt one. Make sure its not the transmission first! This one sensor changes everything. Also remember, if your transmission is shot, it usually always dies straight away.
Help!!! We just bought a 1995 Mazda 626 for $3999, plus interest, from a dealer a week ago. Yesterday the O/D off light started blinking and the car jerks when it is put into drive. What do I do? I have no I idea where to begin. Thank you, Brandee in Washingtion.
Yeh I have a mazda 626 95 lx (stick) and a year ago the valves were clicking. next thing I knew the valve in the third cylinder broke lose and fell in causeing the cylinder to fail. the motor got overworked and the motor ended up blowing on me. I got a new motor. this motor is clicking now also.. I guess these motors don't like the high end rpm's huh. yeh the brakes are killing me too. alignment is crazy too one after another after another.
I own a 1996 Mazda 626 with 155,000 miles on it. It is a DX (although body style is LX) and has a 4 cylinder engine with automatic transmission. Just before the warranty expired on the vehicle my transmission started experiencing the shifting problems described by so many people on various message boards. My transmission was replaced under warranty (just before the car hit 60,000 miles) and has not given me problems since. My check engine light has been on since around 80,000 miles. Before my last emissions test I brought it into a shop that replaced the O2 sensor. I passed the test, but a few days later the check engine light came on again. I think I might need to have my EGR valve passages cleaned. Can anyone provide photos showing me how to do this procedure?
I have a 1995 626lx, bought used with 142,000 and bad tranny. Ordered high quality salvaged one from Japaneses Engine Specialist out of JAX, Fl. My mechanic installed part to determine it was bad. Had to have diagnostic done my mazda dealer before seller would replace bad tranny under warranty. It was replaced, but labor was paid twice, totalling about $2grand. Tranny died again at 150,000. I like this little car, but cannot afford to sink anymore money into it. I wish Mazda would go ahead and recall this tranny. The engine runs great with just a little oil burn-off when starting.
I'm just wondering if the handbrake (emergency brake) wears off easily. Because I am practicing drifting, I really need to know if the handbrake wears off easily.
Thank you.
I own a 98 Mazda 626 LX. I bought it in 2000 off a car lot with 50,000 miles. So, I purchased the extended warranty, but as soon as the warranty went out, so did the transmission. I took it back to the dealership to trade it in and the first thing they asked me was is there anything wrong with the transmission? Anyway, to make a long story short, I'm working on my 2nd transmission. I just had this one rebuilt at 2200 dollars and now my car won't go in reverse. And yes it happened right after the warranty ran out for the rebuilding I had done! I don't know what to do with this car, but I'm positive I want buy another Mazda!!!
Purchased new 2001 626 in April 2001.
Transmission failed at 65000 miles in February 2005 while traveling on an interstate trying to maintain 65 mph.
Took back roads to the local Mazda dealership who confirmed the failed transmission and offered to replace it for $4500.
Contacted my regular dealership at home who confirmed my extended warranty and towed it 150 miles, at $300 cost to us, for repair.
July 3, 2006, O/D light begins engaging again. Car will not shift out of 3rd gear. Take car to dealership; rent another car for vacation later that week and returned from vacation only to be told that the service center could not duplicate my O/D problem. Charged $92.50 and went home with an un-repaired car.
36 hours later the O/D light is back on and the car will go no faster than 45 mph. Returned car to service center today. No word yet.
Most frustrating aspect in all of this, is that no one at the dealership admitted to knowing about the faulty transmission of these vehicles. I was made to feel as if I were some incompetent female that suddenly did not know how to properly operate a car I have been driving for over 5 years. The technician today finally experienced the O/D on/off issue, and confirmed that my sanity is intact.
Although this is my second 626 (1993 manual), I will not purchase another Mazda in the future.
I have a 1999 Mazda 626. I am just like the rest of you my transmission is shot at 100,148 miles. I have contacted all the agencies as well as Mazda and had no response. PLEASE!! If anyone knows how to get this company to settle on these vehicles please, post...
Thanks.
I have a 97 Mazda 626 and and the transmission went out at 125,000 miles. The car would not gain power and would only travel at 45MPH. I took it to a Mechanic and was advised it was the mass air flow sensor. The mechanic had to rebuild this part which cost me $500.00. After 1 month of having the car back after the repair the same thing happened. I brought it back and this time they said my Transmission was shot. Why they didnt realize that the first time I have no idea, so I was out $500.00 for what? So my car would work for 1 month?
I then had to take it in to a Transmission place and have it rebuilt for $2,900. I wanted to just trash the car and get another but I cant afford a new car at this time.
So anyway $3,400 later my car seems to run fine but I'm definently not holding my breath, I'm sure I'll have to put another $500.00 into it by the end of the year for some reason. I understand no car is perfect but the Mazda's are rip off's and I would not sell it to my worst enemy(Well I guess maybe I would)but definently not to anyone I like. Stay away from these car's!!
You have been warned.
Okay, I own a 1998 Mazda 626. It has roughly 97,000 miles on it. Lately it has been harder to start than usual. It starts, but it turns over for a while and I have to give it some gas. For the first few minutes after it starts it runs very rough. It feels like the whole engine is shaking. I can make it run better, faster by pressing the accelerator until the RP Ms get quite a bit higher (however many RP Ms it is at when it hits the 3). I apologize if my information is limited, I'm a seventeen year old girl. What can I do to fix this problem? Could some fuel injector cleaner solve it? Please get back to me A.S.A.P. Thanks!
I bought a 97 626 in 2005 with 38k miles on it.
Since the day I got it the o/d light had been flashing I had no idea what it was.. 3 weeks later while getting off at at exit on the highway it just completley gave out. The dealer said it was the transmission. I payed 50% of it to be replaced with a used one. 1 month after that (i don't know what this was) but it felt like something just fell from underneath my car and there was oil everywhere!! and it was stuck.. couldnt even put it in neutral. Again don't know much about cars, made my dad take it back to mazda and since then havent had many problems.
!! a $5000 car turned out to cost (with everything else that went wrong) about $9000.
My wife has a 2001 Mazda 626 with a manual transmission, 4-cylinder. I haven't read too many complaints about the manual transmission, but hers now gets really hard to shift during hot weather (above 85). Yesterday, she couldn't shift it at all and had to sit for 15 minutes until it cooled down and then it was fine. Sounds like a transmission cooler might be the ticket for us??
It would seem that you just need to change the Manual Gearbox Fluid and maybe get the Clutch Replaced or Adjusted. It could also be that you have a Wet Clucth, by that I mean you could have an additional Fluid Reservoir under the Hood For the Clutch to top up or replace with new Fluid. The latter seems to be the most likely Scenario.
