Where do I start?
Distributer needed replacement.
Mass Air Flow Sensor needed replacement.
Sunroof motor barely works.
Transmission is blown.
Check engine light came on on the way home from buying it, and is still on.
Engine needs work.
Hazard lights don't work.
Cruise control doesn't work.
Oil leak.
Car smokes coming off a stop (from the tailpipe).
Spark plugs had to be replaced.
Starter coil had to be replaced.
Clear coat is coming off spoiler and bumper.
Car dies if you stop too fast, if you're stopped too long, if you don't put it in gear fast enough after turning it on, or if you look at it the wrong way.
There is a horrible smell like oil burning constantly.
Alternator belt went mysteriously missing a few weeks ago (I've replaced it since then)
Door panels are trying to come off.
The passenger window's motor is dying.
The overdrive broke and somehow fixed itself.
It goes through gas like no other (13 mpg on a good day!)
I could go on and on...
Well, I think that it would be a good car IF I bought it from an honest dealer. I should have taken it back when the whole first ride home the check engine light was on and when I got near the carport, it died and wouldn't start again. It goes fast, but sometimes not as fast as it should, and handles quick turns and stops well. I think with some work it could smoke a lot of cars. Too bad I'm broke from all the stupid repairs I have to make just to keep it running!
I myself own a 1995 Mazda MX6 LS, but with a 5 speed. I bought the car at 133,000 kilometers, and since then my trunk cable broke, my e brake don't work it gets stuck and jams up, my tail lights often do weird things on me, and now my engine seized up on me and blew at 151,000 kilometers. I don't know if I would re-do my purchase if I was taken 1 and a half years ago, cause man these cars can be a pain. On the good side, the car handles well, has nice pickup, and has a beautiful exhaust note with a custom exhaust.
I purchased my 1995 Mazda new in 1995. I have had very few problems with the car and it ran like a champ all of these years.
I have nearly 144,000 miles on it and just replaced the transmission a few weeks ago. The engine light came on last night for the first time... so don't know what's up with that.
With this many miles I guess it's time to expect trouble. I have loved the car and hate to give it up. It has served me well.
That's too bad about your car. I bought my 95 MX-6 from a new Mazda dealer and it is the best car I ever had. I got it 4 1/2 years ago with 82k on it and I now have 148k. I get 37mpg and it just goes and goes. I wish they would still make it. I would suggest that when looking for another car you take it for a very long test drive. I took this one home for the weekend and drove it all over the place before buying. I hate to say, but I got it for $1700! There is nothing wrong with it. I hope you don't hate all Mazda's because of your purchase. I will someday get another Mazda. I can't believe it is such a good car. I wish you good luck.
Blame Ford. The 2.5L engine in the MX6, Probe GT and Millenia came from Ford's assembly plant. The motors are notorious for having problems after 100k miles.
