1984 Mercedes-Benz 190 190E 2.0 fuel injected from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Indestructible

Faults:

Air conditioning gas chamber has died.

The leather trim along the doors have peeled away, but can be fixed.

The foam in the seats are wearing away.

Cigarette lighter broken - (don't care - don't smoke)

General Comments:

This is my first car, and after 3 weeks of having it, a BMW 4x4 driver with bull bar hit me in the front left of the car, causing around $3500 damage, but after that hit I learned how 'Tank' and strong this thing really is, and why they were called the "Panzers"

The car is very comfortable; though it's a small model, it still irons out the bumps on the road. The car can go fast - the button under the accelerator will bring the car from 0-60 KM in around 5 seconds.

I am absolutely convinced that this car will go to the end of the world if it's looked after.

This car is a brilliant 1st, 2nd, 3rd, any car. It's strong, very reliable, will never let you down, lives by the saying "never say die" and will protect you from the idiots in 4x4's who shouldn't be allowed to have drivers license.

What do you mean by "Semi automatic transmission"? As far as I remember, these cars were manual or fully automatics.

Summary:

A very practical Mercedes for daily use

Faults:

Got this car back in 2001 with only 27,300 miles on it. However, it was in the worst shape one could imagine. It had been neglected and unused since 1991 when the owner left the country.

Spent the next three years restoring the entire car. Now I'm almost finished. Total cost for restoring the entire car, all done at the local M-B dealers, using all original parts: $6,900.

The interior was almost completely destroyed and the car could not even start the first day. Now, it feels like I just drove it out the showroom!

General Comments:

Timeless, classic design, in and out.

Born to run at very high speeds.

Parts are very expensive. Most are out of stock and have to be ordered from Germany, which could take months.

Rear seat too cramped to fit any real adults. Forget the center seat- two in the back is already cramped enough.

A/C for the 190 models aren't strong enough to fight very high temperatures.

Hi.

I have the same year model, I get about 27mpg. It seems to me that something is wrong with mine. I would like your opinion if is normal or is my car drinking too much fuel?

Thanks!

Mark.

I got my 190E sometimes in February 2004. I was really impressed by the performance. It is an automatic car. Being my first car ever, I was not really bothered by the fuel consumption it is only now that the cost of fuel has gone up that we are made to be conscious of fuel economy. Apart from this the car performs well especially on long journeys. On the highways I could do up to 170km/p and there would still be room.

I was informed that 190s have peculiar problems then I went to check the date of manufacture of my car. I found that it was 1984 so the little problems with excessive fuel intake and automatic transmission could be normal for the first models. The braking system is superb although not an ABS. The back seats are too cramped for tall people. The front upright seats wear easily at the lower side where you enter. Considering selling the car because of high fuel intake.

Summary:

A very high quality product

Faults:

Nothing ever went wrong with it!

General Comments:

This is the most reliable car I have owned, and the most comfortable. Always started regardless of temperature, the only task required of me was to basically put gas in it and drive. It was a wonderful ride, good on gas, low on oil, comfort to max, and looked great as well. Fantastic vehicle.

Alas, all relationships must come to an end, and this one came rather violently. My son totaled this car a month after he got his drivers license. Thank god no one was injured.
