2009 Mercedes-Benz CLK 350 Coupe 3.5 V6 gas from North America

Summary:

A good buy at a depreciated price

Faults:

Nothing has broken. Everything works as it should. Only regular upkeep such as tires, pads/rotors, oil changes, and fluid changes. Very reliable the 2009 CLK's.

General Comments:

Always wanted a 2 door coupe. Had my eye on an E Coupe, but I saw this on the lot for cheaper and lower miles. Still had an extended aftermarket warranty for another year on it. I have been pretty happy with the car with nothing going wrong with it. The car is beautiful looking and I get looks everywhere I go. It does have an aftermarket ECU Tune and other work done by (Kleemann) and it puts out about 320bhp. The car is fast enough for me. Those who want more should look elsewhere. I have personally tested 0-60 in under 5 seconds with mods. More than enough pep for me.

The car is comfortable. Seats are comfortable but I would not take this car on a 5-hour drive. At the most, I am in this car for usually no more than a couple of hours at a time. Seats could use a little more support in the lower back area. Getting in and out can be a little hard, but that is normal for any coupe. Rear seats are useless, but they fold down giving you extra storage space. Front seats are heated and ventilated.

Interior quality is good. Very little plastic used. Wood trim feels solid. Doors feel solid with no rattles. The interior overall is very solid and well put together. I do wish the car was more insulated and quiet. While there are no rattles or squeaks, I do notice lots of noise from the exterior. This leads me to believe the car lacks soundproofing and insulation.

Technology in this car is just awful, but I have found a fantastic solution! The standard command, camera, and radio were antiquated when the car was made. My solution was an Apple CarPlay after-market head unit that looks OEM and is plug and play. Headlights were upgraded to OEM Xenon lights giving it a great clean look. I have found that these CLK's are bare-bones as dealers and owners failed to order many options. Because of the depreciation on these cars, I would say for the money they make a good used car buy. For $12,000 you can buy a low mileage example and add the extras giving you a great coupe for cheap.

Upkeep is not bad at all. Not cheap like a Ford or Honda, but not as expensive as the SL600 I use to own. Tires, pads/rotors, fluids, filters are usual. Services A/B are mostly consisting of inspections and many of them can be done on your own. This car is very DIY-friendly as it is not bogged down with much technology. In fact even when brand new I would say the car is low tech.

The engine is a 3.5 V6 268bhp stock (Mine is 320bhp due to modifications). MPG I can get close to a 30mpg highway if I am gentle on it. 7 speed transmission is solid and smooth.

Ride quality is OK. Not great, but nowhere near the worst either. Proper tires are important for a decent ride along with keeping the suspension stock and trouble-free.

Overall I would say this is a good buy. For the price, you cannot go wrong. I would not choose a soft top as I hate them. Coupes always look better too. These will never go up in value, so you drive knowing you can rack up the miles for years to come.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Had a Mercedes once and it was the best driving car I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of vehicles. But it always seem to break my heart once a month. You name it... it went out. It made the cult movie car Christine look like an angel in comparison. Just couldn't deal with it anymore.

The "cult movie car Christine" restored itself and repaired its own damage. Wish my car had that ability.

Of course, it also went out and killed people, so there's that.

The CLK is a good car, but I feel like it’s not worth owning anymore. The tech is awful. I think as a weekend car it works, but for daily life this car is not fit for daily driving. I also feel like the car is so much C Class.

I could not agree more. I have a 2009 CLK350 Coupe, and even if you upgrade the head unit to something modern, it still feels like an ancient car. I think as a weekend car it's fine, but as a DD it's just not it. Small, with 2 doors, the ride isn't good, handling is nothing special. So many other cars out there.
