Bought our 240-D in 1991, love this car ! Runs great; last new car purchased was in 1981, a (VW Rabbit) ; drove it to 1991 when we got our 240-D.

I just purchased my third 240d. I love these cars. The only problem I have ever had with them is the auto tranny; my first one was an auto, my last two were 4 speeds, but I love them and no matter how ugly the outside gets, I will keep driving it till the time comes that I cannot any more.

I bought a 1980 240D with 294,000 miles on it. It had quite a bit of rust and many things did not work. I then found another 240D on craigslist for sale for $400. I phoned the seller and he indicated that both the interior and exterior color was the same as what I had... I pulled up with my car, and lo and behold, it was the same color interior and exterior! Of course he wouldn't negotiate on the price, but I expected that... I am now about 80% finished with the car's restoration and can't wait to get everything put back together. I probably spent about $4,000 for the purchase, parts and repair and have another $2,000 to go. However, for $6,000, I have a pretty nice car.

It's really not going to be worth what I put into it, but that's not the point! Just as everyone else who has written about this car, the drive experience and the pride in having fixed the car myself is what matters...

I just bought a navy blue 1981 240D 4sp with 105k on the clock. A fun car to drive, 30+ mpg, rock solid with quality of build evident throughout.

I've been having fun doing small easy things like adding a passenger side mirror and adding pool noodles to the driver's seat. Valve adj and valve seat replacement are next. Looking for alloy wheels. Thx, Dean4r@gmail.com.

I have had many makes of cars, and I must say the Mercedes diesel is the best car ever made, period! I have owned three. My first one was a 1977 240d 4sd, the second a 1977 300d, and now a 1983 240d auto. I just love them!

I have lusted after a Benz since I was a teen in the 70's. At age 50, I finally pulled the trigger and bought my first Mercedes. It is a 1980 240D auto with working A/C. It was a one owner garage kept car with 160,000 miles. It drives and looks new. I am actually looking forward to my commute each morning simply to experience the exceptional engineering and quality of such a well built car. As a mechanical engineer, I am especially aware of all the "over-built" details that allow the car to simply last forever with proper maintenance.

I paid $2500 for this car, and I want to work on it, but the simple fact is it does not need anything but someone to drive it. I am happy to oblige.

I now own three W123s and this weekend I could not hold my self back to buy just one more. All are diesel and I just love them.

My new one is a 1980 240d 4speed. With four of these great cars I will never have to look for a car for the rest of my life. Unless I find my 300td! LOL!

1977 300d. 270k

1977 240d 4 speed. 298k

1980 240d 4 speed. 268k

1983 240d auto. 90k (my baby)

I just bought a 1981 Mercedes Benz 240D with only 71,000 miles from a nice lady. It's in perfect condition. Light blue, perfect paint, hub caps, glass, bumpers, etc. The interior looks like it's never been sat in. I drove it for the first time today. Amazing, it's a keeper!
