1992 Mercury Capri Clubsprint Turbo 1.6 turbo from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

So much fun I will keep it forever!!

Faults:

The cooling system had been badly neglected, and so all hoses have been replaced.

General Comments:

This car has been fantastic fun. I had to buy another one for my wife to stop her borrowing mine all the time.

It has been very cheap to run, and turns ordinary trips into memorable adventures!

It isn't my only car - I use it for weekend driving, but do use it all year round.

Never had any problems with the roof leaking, except in car washes.

Working on the car is easy, but access can be difficult. At 6 3 I fit in it nicely - not true of most sports cars.

1992 Mercury Capri XR2 Turbo 1.7 from North America

Summary:

Awesome sports car from down under

Faults:

Needed new steering wheel bushings.

General Comments:

This car is one terrific little used car secret. Didn't think it would be so fast and fun to drive.

Of course I installed a true Corvette type dual exhaust with 2.5 inch pipes, and removed the clogged catalyic converter, and replaced it with a sidewinder free flow cat. Also installed a turbo boost gauge (11 psi) and cold air intake system, and presto, the car just beat a really trying Porsche Boxster S last week.

The car has aged well; it looks like a small Ferrari 360 or Modena (I have the Razzi kit) with 18 inch wheels.

Really no problems to report. When I put the top down, it is a way too much fun for under $5000. Can't believe this car was an utter failure when introduced. Glad all over.

1992 Mercury Capri 1.6 from North America

Summary:

What a great little used car for the price!

Faults:

It was hard to put on the new top and screw on the latch for the top. It had be adjusted after replacement in-order to latch it.

General Comments:

I bought this car for under $1000.00; it’s a lot of fun for the price. The seller had just bought a replacement top, which I had to put on. According to others the top can be a problem, but so far so good.

I have had this car up and down the hills in San Francisco, with my 5’ 10” son-in-law in the back seat, all over the Sacramento River delta area and up to Lake Tahoe, and it’s taken the hills and the traffic without a problem.

Everyone seems to enjoy riding in my car. It handles great and is really fun to drive. I even had a little girl ask me if it was a spy car at the grocery store.

A good site for parts and info if you haven’t already found it is www.moderncapriparts.biz

Have fun driving in the fresh air and sunshine.

Agreed, the actual car is cheaper than some of those parts.

1992 Mercury Capri 1.7ltr from North America

Summary:

Love theCapri like other cars

General Comments:

In 1998 I saw this car that looked unique, when I bought it everyone wanted to know what it was, it was a Mercury Capri (I Loved It).

Moved back home could not afford payments, so years later I found another one, I was having problems with Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and gave that mess up for the Capri. NO REGRETS.

In fact I have seen another one an I am going to buy that also. Would never sell or get rid of again. No major problems yet, but the Capri is worth it no more are made and of the ones out there they are collectable.

The reason no more are made was because they couldn't find enough people to buy them. The Miata outclassed the Capri in just about every way. Parts are already getting hard to find, especially the ones that broke a lot, like the latches for the convertible top.

That is not a very positive outlook. Sure the Capri might not of been the classiest around, but they more than serves their purpose. If you wanted the classier car you could upgrade to the Mazda, but for most of us the Capri more than satisfied our need for a reliable yet fuel efficient rag-top that is truly worth keeping. Don't knock on the Capri because if you ever run across these they are worth keeping. Sure parts are getting scarce, but that would be the case on any import that only ran 4 years of production. It's truly a remarkable automobile.

Summary:

This car is great :)

Faults:

The fan belt broke and the brakes needed changing, but that's it. Oh, and the top leaks when it rains even though its brand new.

General Comments:

I love this car! I've driven it what should be into the ground, and it still runs great. Last summer I was driving about a hundred miles a day up mountains and it's fine. Not to mention, it handles better than anything else I've ever driven.
