2002 Mercury Grand Marquis LS review from North America

"Best Car for the money. High quality-easy to own."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When the car was brand new, with only 50-miles on it, the digital dash speed stopped working. Dealer replaced it for free. It was a sensor, not the dash itself.

At 60,000-miles the seatbelt for the driver would not roll back up in the bar. Not covered under the extended warranty due to physical contamination on the seat belt. They said that I didn't properly clean the seatbelt and my makeup and stuff coated the seatbelt and got down in the retracting gear and caused it to seize up. I have never had a seatbelt issue before. The seat belt appeared clean. (Cost to me was $400)

The very top strand on the rear defrost on the back glass has stopped working. All the lower wires heat up and work fine.

My 100,000-mile warranty is up.

General comments?

Excellent car. Excellent MPG for a heavy car. City=16, Open highway at 70mph=28mpg.

Very strong engine that allows me to pass anyone.

Neat back lighted controls on the steering wheel for the radio and stuff.

Very reliable, I drive the car for business and some days I get over 400-miles from home and never worry about it breaking down.

This RWD car actually drives well in the snow, if you keep the traction control off.

This car is the finest car I have ever owned. My last car was a 1995 Mitsubishi Diamante that gave me nothing, but problems from new.

Huge trunk.

Still runs like new at 120,000-miles. Uses no oil like the Mitsubishi did.

Very solid transmission that is tough and never does funny things like my last car.

The rear seat doesn't have a ton of room with tall people in the front seats. It is kind of hard to get in the rear seat due to the way the top of the doors curve in.

On top of the front doors, it is sharp and pointed and at just the right height to black you eye if you're not careful and your short like my elderly mother. We are thinking of having a full padded roof put on to make this trouble spot soft.($1500)

I love the digital dash, dual exhaust, controls, seats, power, mpg, and cheap insurance.

Best car for the money.

We are going to drive it till it hits 200,000-miles then trade it for a new one.

I think we have found the car brand that we will stick with for life.

As long as the keep building these cars.
