2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Premium 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

The Ham Sandwich of Automobiles

Faults:

Aside from getting my right side slammed into after I had it for 5 days, very little is wrong. Even after having it repaired.

General Comments:

It's a great car, but I suggest getting pone that's a year or so old to save yourself on the "new car cost." It's a little pricey for a new one.

It's a fantastic car all around, although I wish they'd offer some kind of turbo "VR4 package."

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Spyder 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

I am not impressed with the reliablity

Faults:

Excess oil consumption from the start (about 4-600 miles/qt). Several visit to the dealer ultimately resulted in them replacing the short block. Dealer indicated rings were bad, but I am not confident I got the complete story. After this service a number of problem have occurred including a broken balance shaft gear. Car is currently at the dealer and I have requested a replacement car under the lemon law.

General Comments:

Really love the car, great features and fun to drive. Particularly like the convertible. Unfortunately I am deeply concerned about reliablity.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Premium V6 Sporttronic from North America

Summary:

Great looks, style and performance. Poor quality and service

Faults:

Week one, Passenger window motor failed.

Poor paint quality (delivered with swirl marks in the paint) car delivered at night so was unable to see swirl marks, won't make that mistake again.

Dash has several rattles in and around the stereo.

Passenger seat has an unusual noise.

Dealer fixed all but the seat. No idea what is causing that.

Week Two, 4 disc in Dash CD player bit the big one and kept my four CD's.

Dealer fixed that after I waited a week to get the part. Had to wait another 3 weeks to get my CD's back.

Have had 2 weeks without a major problem. Lets hope the trend continues.

General Comments:

The Mitsubiushi Dealer. Don Davis in Arlington, TX is to be avoided at all cost. I wrote a letter to them explaining my poor service experience. They called and stepped up to the plate for those repairs. I took my car in for its first oil change and watched them bottom out the front air dam on the lift. Took 1.5 hours to get an oil change while I waited.

The cars performance and styling are above par. I have no complaints about either of those.

Love the color options and available options on the car.

Hate the poor build quality and horrible service I have received to date.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Bang for the buck, sexiest convertible with some balls

Faults:

Nothing major. Two annoyances.

1. Doors are not flush with the body. Need to take it to the dealer before 36,000 miles.

2. After a rain or car wash, the windows have a mildew smell when they are rolled down. After a little research, found out that the dealer will replace the weather strips with anti-fungal ones.

Probably will take care of these two annoyances soon.

General Comments:

Joy to drive, especially with the power top down. One performance mod performed, a cold air intake that adds about 9 HP to the wheel. AEM manufactures the intake and it sounds sweet above 3500 RPM.

Have not taken the car over 120, have read on the web that some people have taken it over 145. Will beat just about anything that pulls up next to you and definitely anything in its class. Honda eater. Look out for Type R Integras.

2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GT 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Cool design and a good price, you can't go wrong

Faults:

Alignment is off, because of it there's a lot of tire noise. Problem from the first week of ownership.

SV joints are starting to break so they make too much noise when I accelerate or brake hard. Hopefully it's still covered under warranty and they'll fix it with no problems. These are the kind of problems you run into for having front wheel drive.

The suspension is definitely not for city driving.

General Comments:

This car handles real well and it is a lot of fun to drive.

The cabin noise, even with the top down, is bearable so you can have a conversation even at 45mph.

Some changes that I've made that improve this driving experience are wider tires and a different suspension. Soon to come is a small turbo charger. That should get things really moving in the right direction.
