The 3G Eclipse does NOT perform as well as the 2G. I do like the 3G, but I owned a 2G Turbo and it is definitely faster. The 3G runs 0-60 in 7.9 at best (not the 6.9 that the 2G run). My 2G pulled a 6.5 as have many others.

I'll have to agree with you about the 3G Eclipse. The V6 is a joke. I had one for 2 weeks, got rid of it and bought my 98 GST back from the dealer. My GST when it was stock would pull the V6 Eclipse by at least 2 car lengths. Now that I have the 16G turbo on my car running low 13's, I don't even waste my gas racing the 3G pieces of crap.

7.9 0-60 huh. Funny how I ran a 15.07 stock, but my car does 0-60 in 7.9 seconds. Doesn't seem right to me maybe you guys just can't drive. Don't get me wrong I have respect for the 2g turbo, and its easier to mod because the stock turbo, but the 3g isn't as bad as you guys think it is, and I know for sure its faster than a stock GST :)

I agree that the 3G eclipse is a mistake. I should say the 2G eclipse is the leader. I have a 1995 eclipse RS and it takes just 6.5 seconds from 0 to 60 unlike the 3G that takes over 7.0 seconds. That's no joke.

New GTS 0-60= 6.7 seconds. My 3g with RIPPMODS supercharger should yield low to mid 13 second quarters, at only 5 psi. Is there a 3g that can match that with only 5 psi through it's turbo?

13th Nov 2002, 22:12

Your RS does 0-60 in 6.5 lmao maybe that's what its 60' times are... stop magazine racing the 3G will do a lot better than 7 seconds 0-60 just like I'm sure if the GST is listed at 6.9 it will do a lot better than that with diff drivers and with cars, altitude, weather, etc.

Man, all of you guys should be ashamed of yourself, especially the guy claiming he ran a 15 in a RS. Yea, Right?!!. The 2nd gen turbo is faster than the 3rd gen, period. Search the web is all that I have to say.

I agree, the GST is faster than the V6 Eclipse. I have to tell though, with the Rippmods charger installed in it, it does pretty well, and it feels great, picks up really good. I have raced Corvettes, the Saliin, the turbo audi, and even some porches, kept up pretty good with a new 911, but we didn't have enough time to strech all gears, so I don't know with that one. The GST is a great car to drive I agree, and it is fast. I would not trade my V6 for the GST, after all, with new internals, bigger engine, the V6 does perform better, with a turbo or a charger. So if you don't want to buy a new eclipse, and have a good car the GST is it, and you don't have to spend much money to make it fast since it already is, love my V6 though!, and yes both stock the GST is faster than the V6 I agree.

OK. I respect the fact that you have a new 3g Eclipse with your wonderful V6 and all, but come on, man, a Saleen S7? Yea right! You could barely beat that with a Ferrari Enzo! Besides, you spelled it wrong. How does that make your story believable? A Saliin? Sorry, never heard of it. Now, on the other hand, I have heard of a 911 Turbo, and a Turbocharged Audi, but those are way out of ANY stock Eclipse's league. You're talking A- Class versus C-class there. The Corvette... well, that may be a match to see, but highly doubtful with the 3gs. Just be happy you don't own an original Eclipse. Myself- I stay with my '95 GST- 0-60 in 6.7 seconds and a good quarter in the upper 14s- STOCK.

I completely agree... there is no way that a stock eclipse could take a saleen. My self, I'm lookin into a 1995 GST and these comments have convinced me that this is the right model. 6.7 seconds stock is pretty amazing for a car under 20 grand... especially when you consider the reviews I have read about the eclipse's handling.

I was interested in a 2G GST or GSX, but with all the crankwalk problems and all, I decided to get a 2000 Eclipse GT. It's not as fast, but definitely not slow (I've driven a 97 GST before and it was like 1/2 second faster). I also am not impressed with the 2G's interior and I personally think the shifter is too close to the dash... I felt like I might punch out the CD player when I shift into third. I still think the 2G Eclipses are nice, but the insurance cost on a turbo'ed car and the cheap interior, along with the list of recalls, I love my 3G. :)

I own a 94 eclipse gs-t. No let me tell u, it might not be the fastest car in the world, but it's VERY impressive. all you need is to know someone that knows what they're doing. For $20 I dropped down a whole second in the 1/4 mile. for $7,000 my friend was running 11's, then converted to an all-wheel drive, and is now running 9's. so yeah... i gotta say that I do love my "poor man's Porsche"!

I have had only one 3rd gen Eclipse try to play with me. Apparently he could'nt see the GS-T decal on my decklid and tried to run me. All I had to do was spool-up the turbo and he immediately backed off and turned around. LOL. It was a sight to be seen.

Just wanted to comment, I have a 95 GST. It's a fun car to drive. I wouldn't call it or the 3G a fast car. If you think they are, line up against my 72mm turbo 87 5.0, low 11s with nothing else done besides injectors, pump, and radiator. Anyway, still a fun car to drive.

I just wanted to defend the person who said they ran a Saleen.

The S7 is not the only vehicle to carry the Saleen badge.

The early Saleen Mustangs were nothing more than an appearance package and some suspension tuning, so, sure they could have outrun an 86 Saleen Mustang.

And yes, I know this is an old thread. Still felt I should defend that person.

I have a 2g gsx that runs 0-60 in 6.4.

13th Mar 2009, 06:54

Where's the love for the RS and GS, the 420a with a stage 2 Hahn Racecraft turbo kit and some other little mods can lay down an impressive time, and you would be spending about the same over all, EXCEPT 420a's won't ever crankwalk HA HA.

26th Apr 2009, 21:30

I own a 98 GS-R, and I'll tell you 3g and 4g don't even try to race me once they see the GS-T on my rear.

5th Aug 2009, 15:57

I have a 93 del Sol and I'm about to trade it for a 95 Eclipse GST. Has less miles than mine, but I don't know, a lot of people keep telling me to not do it because they are expensive to maintain. I don't know what I should do, help me out.

27th Sep 2010, 11:45

I own a 1996 GS-T. Engine is stock and it's pretty quick. I'm not saying it could take anything crazy, but it definitely beats the 3g.
