1990 Mitsubishi Lancer SE 1.5 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Ahead of its age in looks inside and out, this car is a must for the younger driver

Faults:

New engine and gearbox was needed about 4 months after I first got the car, original components that came with the car in 1990, 13 years not a bad life.

4th gear (OD) stopped working, cost 200 dollars to get fixed.

Engine was about 1 litre of oil a week, cost $1000 for a reconditioned motor.

I totalled my car, totally my fault though.

General Comments:

Pretty comfortable cabin.

Car looks really modern for its age, both inside and outside.

Even after me running the car into a pole, the car is still on the roads and looks as though it has never been in a crash. Thanks to a few people the car was saved from the junkyard.

Very good car to show off your car audio ;-) The rattling from the hatch is actually very little considering it is a hatchback afterall.

Even though the old engine and gearbox were on their last legs, the car was still reliable and has yet to break down on me. With the new engine and gearbox the car works 100% the way it should, and runs very smoothly and goes quite well for such a small car. The engine sounds pretty good too.

I drove one of these once. Was the worst car I have ever driven. Very bad quality car.

1990 Mitsubishi Lancer GL 1.8 diesel from Malta

Summary:

Everything you wish a friend could be

Faults:

Electric Cigarette Lighter Stopped working after 3 years. I'm a heavy smoker and used it regularly.

General Comments:

For it's price, class and size, I'd say this is one of the best cars ever built. It's reliability is unquestioned and has a surprisingly comfortable ride. Handles well, except going up a hill and round sharp corners in the rain when you can feel the rear tires slipping, but that's to be expected from any car. Lacks rear leg room and comfortable arm rests.

1990 Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi 1.5 from Sweden

Faults:

Thermostat had to be changed since the engine didn't get the right temperature.

Lights on numberplate completely rusted away. Nothing left except the light-bulbs. What a stupid construction!!

Otherwise a very reliable car.

General Comments:

Service is far too expensive!!

Could be better treated against rust!
